I would guess that it will be around 31% open.

If he loses then we got JennyPoo who will for sure keep it closed and destroy rapid transit. Give the cops more money and we will see her mug spewing more garbage and blaming it all on former mayors.

Fact is though. The entire corner above and below HAS to be fixed. Not for some Open P&M movement. For the simple fact it’s all falling apart. That is one thing not one yes or no voter can deny.

I do however see it taking many years to do. The complexity of fixing it all and keeping traffic flowing during construction would be a fair deal.

My guess is they will wait till the new towers is done and that construction is gone and then start on portage and main. They may start underground sooner. Just like they did with Winnipeg square.
First, grow up, there’s no need for childish name calling. Secondly I feel this vote should have been binding, and if there’s a lot of No votes it would be a mistake to go ahead with it.

The vote will go no. Then City Council will actually look into the details, get all that out to the public. Go ahead with the studies about what needs to be repaired and how much it'll cost. The barriers will come down to repair the underground and will be debated as to whether they are re-built. I suspect not, and we'll all move on in joyful bliss. Timeline, numerous years.

Lol I love how anyone who rrskylar disagrees with is apparently unemployed and doesn't pay taxes. It's like the most "Angry Grandpa" argument ever.

So like 90% of this forum is on welfare I guess? Makes it weird seeing commuter cyclists every morning headed to their jobs when I know that no cyclists have jobs, or watching people head into our office bike rack after locking their bikes even though they obviously don't work here because everyone knows cyclists don't have jobs. Where are they going?

Adding a new layer of hilarity, these unemployed deadbeats are somehow now also elites! Ah yes, the elite welfare bums who are pulling all the strings in Winnipeg!

I guess when you don't have any facts or logic to argue with you just resort to primitive insults and kindergarten name calling. Hate to break this to you but voters are going to elect Bowman and most of them do in fact have jobs.

How? The city's decision should be based on good planning alone. Why else would the city have planners? It's their job. Then we have a 2-0 vote in favour of opening it.

The intersection closure or reopening is literally an agreement between the city and the landlords. It's bizarre that the landlords will vote yes, potentially against the city, when it's "no" position is driven by people who don't use downtown.

You know who pays taxes?

All those businesses that ARE there. All those people that LIVE there. They all want it open.

If you, per chance, were from North Kildonan, you should be infinitely more pissed at the $500,000,000 widening of Kenaston Boulavard than the $490,000,000 less expensive opening of P+M.

binding referendums are unconstitutional in canada. you can't bind democratically-elected governments. A government can state that it is going to make it binding, but it would not stop the government from later deciding to do something different, nor would it stop a future government from doing something different.

A province or other level of government can pass legislation that sets out rules that a government would be bound by a referendum. However, parliamentary or legislative sovereignty is a principle that a parliament or legislature is sovereign and cannot be bound by tools such as referendums if they decide not to be. A legislature, for example, could simply pass new legislation or remove the legislation. You also cannot bind a newly-elected government to the decisions of a previous government.

I would ahve so much respect for Bowman, if after the "No" side inevitably wins the referendum, he puts on some shades, has a doobie in his hand, and in front of every media station, gives the middle finger to the No side, and say he will go through with it anyway.

As an added bonus, he can say "hey, you voted me in again. Who the 🞵🞵🞵🞵 is going to stop me? Sam Katz? " and proceeds to laugh hysterically.

If the final results are presented anything like Ontario's, not only will those results be broken down by ward, but by polling stations within wards. Media likely won't cover it but Winnipeg's election body/city clerk whoever is in charge, will publish the detailed results next week once they're finalized.

I told my mom about Portage and Main and she was like "how do people cross it??" and I said, ominously, "they use the tunnel." and she's all "is it scary?" and I said "yes, it's filled with banks."
