Miami is also so damm hot and humid... I couldn't imagine working down there. Just marinating in your own sweat all day. Add in the issues they're having with flooding around King Tide, and soon there will be flooding during regular high tides. The costs to shore up those systems and add pumps are going to be shouldered by the local communities, so it's a good bet that taxes/costs are going to go way up.

Vacationing/partying in Miami is great, relocating a HQ there not as great.

Miami was the most surprising finalist. Even more so than Indianapolis and Columbus. What is there in the way of a tech ecosystem? Schools? It doesn't seem to get any attention with regard to its tech community. How could it meet the needs of Amazon? Not to mention it has environmental considerations that very few, if any, other of the finalists have.

I think Marco Rubio is the reason Miami is on the list. He's young, he's ambitious, he's almost certainly going to run for President again. He's going to be a major political figure going forward regardless. I don't think LA has ever been a serious contender, either. But Kamala Harris and Gavin Newsom are likely to matter in the next couple of decades. Cultivate favor with these folks.

I miss Atlanta 3000. He was aggressive, but he was the one person who brought up insightful data points. Without him, everything's just unsubstansive speculation with little more insight than news articles. Just like how President Trump is brash with words and tweets but brought us the strongest economy in decades, is resolving nuclear threats on two fronts and is restoring the judiciary from activism--he is brash, but he was nonetheless a huge contributor here.

Atl3k absolutely had to be banned. He was constantly berating others, and when he was confronted he would pitch a fit, acting like he was above being questioned. He asked mods to delete his account on at least three different occasions when his posts attacking others were deleted. He once called someone “physically ugly” because he thought they had a different opinion than him. They were actually agreeing with him, but he was so defensive he couldn’t see it.

He built people up over nothing with the casino fiasco. He posted outdated renderings for sites where other buildings had already been built. He posted images without crediting anything. He broke every rule on the board and expected no one to say anything. Trump isn’t just aggressive: he’s a terrible person. He mocked a disabled person and people still brown-nose him.
Very similar to the way people ignore how horrible Atl3k treated other people. I’m just glad one of them got what was coming to them.

Get thicker skin. The guy was fine. We're adults and should be able to handle someone getting passionate on a topic.

His passion wasn’t the issue. He got banned because he didn’t have thick enough skin to handle having a post deleted.

The announcement is supposed to happen before the end of the year. I’m glad we shouldn’t have to wait much longer. I think Atlanta is a better candidate than quite a few places that made the list, but I don’t think we’ll get HQ2. Speculation here has indicated that the Gulch would be the location for HQ2 in Atlanta, but Amazon wants somewhere that’s ready to build.

Agreed...how blind can some of you be on here? How many false hopes can one bring and some of you keep being so gullible as if it's great info. I use to like the compassion, but after while it was just a plethora of misleading information. On and on with these connect the dots posts, when at the end of the day, it wasn't as significant as the post by the Chicago former that some of you were upset over.

I agree.

Most of the finalists are solid choices. Atlanta has big advantages with the great QOL, workforce, and colleges, but it seems to lack a great site. For Atlanta's sites to work there has to be a big shift and gentrification otherwise the places where a person making over $100k are too far of a commute. For example, check out where the solid public schools are and then check the commute times to the gulch. If something like the pre-development Atlantic Station site was available Atlanta would be a slam dunk. I do wonder if Amazon has a great site in Atlanta that we haven't talked about.

As for 3k, I loved his passion, but he was posting garbage to feed the hype. Look back at his "dots", and you'll see that none of them ended up being true.

He and a few others even attacked at me for expressing skepticism in his "connect the dots" stuff.

It did get ridiculous.

More importantly, did he get the DAMN job with Amazon?
I seriously doubt it.
He was all gilb and forward thinking b4 the job interview, but nasty and mean-spirted thereafter.

Maybe his inability to keep the Bisnow news confidential, was a sign to Amazon that a snake is better left outside.

Come on now, everyone. Would be great to focus on all the great stuff going on in Atlanta. Not to mention 3k probably provided 100+ more renderings than anyone else in recent years and found some great scoops well before it was common knowledge (like the Boulevard developments).

Time to stop trolling on the internet and get on with our lives and development hawking/following

The only explanation I see is that 3k was Jeff Bezos playing the long con.

I’ve also come to the believe that Amazon is a monopoly. Maybe it’s time for some good ole fashioned trust busting. Then every city in America gets Amazon!

That's what I've been saying for years! It's no secret I think the FANG gang are oligarchs.

What is it now? +40 days and counting? And that was just for the second prediction on the announcement date.

Announcement date fails aside, hopefully the unbreakable AT&T building lease turns out to be true, though. I agreed that it was all over, if it's true, and I got called physically ugly for agreeing that it would be the smoking gun.

Hi, sorry I'm new here but why has everyone ruled out Norfolk Southern as being the party behind the AT&T building lease?

Norfolk Southern has announced that they're moving their HQ to Atlanta. And they've stated they want to make their HQ in Midtown.

Is there any reason why 675 Peachtree isn't also just a move by Norfolk Southern?

I used to work for NS and they love old AT&T buildings. Their current midtown location is an old AT&T building. Before the 2015 renovation, it was stock 80’s in there. You could even see where they peeled off the AT&T symbol on the podium in their conference rooms. It had that glorious 1985 smell too. I never thought of it but I would not rule out what you said above.

According to the reporting on the subject, Norfolk Southern wants to use proceeds from the land sale at The Gulch to "build" a new HQ. I doubt that a move into an existing building, would be contingent on selling their Gulch land.
