That's BS. Doolin's is a legend.

Is it? I remember a time before it was there, and I'm not that old.

It is a popular spot with atmosphere and perfectly anchors that corner, being replaced with a boutique hotel isn’t exactly exciting.

Well the boutique hotel is replacing the existing comfort in hotel above Doolins, I think they said they were re-purposing Doolins into more of a lounge than a pub.

I would expect something similar to Hotel Moda in the old Dufferin Hotel at Smithe & Seymour.

Hotel Moda has Red Card Sports Bar, Uva Wine Bar, Ciba Trattoria and a beer and wine store.
http://www.modahotel.ca/

They'll probably open up the ground floor so there's more of a hotel lobby than there is for the Comfort Inn.

Yep, back in the day it BaBaLu Lounge, where Michael Buble got his start. Far more distinctive than yet another Fauxrish Pub.

yea I remember it from way back too. I always thought Doolins was a Douchebag bar with Irish Flair.

Plenty of "Douchebag" Irish bars around in the neighbourhhood: nothing to miss, really. Some classier lounge and boutique hotel would balance up the redneck feel of that area.

We need a cull of Fauxrish pubs infesting downtown. So many great spaces, especially on Granville, wasted by these guys selling $8.50 macro beers. They're also usually too loud for conversation, but with no dancing. It's the worst of all worlds.

Wow, that sucks so much compared to the character that was there before.

They couldn’t even reinstate the palm trees that were out front or the vertical signage that was lost in the design / landscaping?

I believe that site was designated for higher density condos under the West End plan, no? That it is becoming a 5 storey office building says a lot about market right now...

Agreed. The City is out of its mind letting so many hotel spaces go. Few major cities that I have been to are so sparse in their hotel offerings as Vancouver.

I wonder what retail store would move n there - it's pretty far west on the retail strip - more of the neighbourhood area.
I guess Jang Mo Jib could move in there since its location is being redeveloped.

While there might have been some leeway, they would need double the frontage to build to 300 feet.

Previously was listed for 75,000sq feet development by Asia Standard:

Much better than what was there before. But why do they need Double the frontage to build a tower?

Exactly office is hotter than residential now
