Cool, lots more space for sketchy people to hang out all day in.

Yeah, I was thinking the same. There is a lot of homeless people hanging around the library space. I hope they won't be allowed to make the new rooftop their space as then nobody wants to go there.

The libarary has a good size security team that monitors all the public spaces. They are supposed to intervene if say someone is sleeping etc

Personally, I think that they should be allowed to sleep in the colonnade at night
- that would take the pressure off the adjacent condo buildings
- like the 819 (7-Eleven) at Robson & Hamilton.

I attended the opening today. A wonderful spot. It opens just before it rains the next 6 or so months, but it will be very popular next spring.

I have little concerns about the rooftop garden. I do hope the new washrooms remain somewhat clean. The old ones are so sketchy.

I'm already hearing whispers of a move-in: the thought process is that by not being so visible to most people, there would be less push to shut it down.

Or 819 could just get rid of the 7-11. Those and Tim Hortons are magnets for homeless.

The Tim Horton's at L'Hermitage on Robson is no longer 24 hours.

Only the McDonalds and the 7-Eleven at Robson & Hamilton are 24 hours now.
But I don't see homeless sleeping at the 7-Eleven at Robson & Granville (maybe too busy an area)

Hmmm, just chase them out? Doesn't the library have security guards?

Take it from someone who has worked several jobs at different places that attract homeless/vagrants, keeping them out is like herding cats, they will always try again as they have nothing better to do.

Pics by me today - the Kingston Hotel is being painted salmon pink.
Likely to stand out from the green glass of the Telus Garden complex surrounding it.

The pink with beige columns scheme looks familiar, but I can't quite place it.
I think there's another hotel painted similarly somewhere.

998 Thurlow (Washington Court) is on fire. Ironically the empty apt. building next door (across the alley) is slated for demolition as part of the Buro Ole Scheeren Towers project. According to ChangingCity this is the second time it's had a major fire: https://changingvancouver.wordpress.com/2014/10/27/washington-court-998-thurlow-street/
My pics today:
