Some people prefer the 2-4-2 of the A330 to the 3-3-3 of the 787, but I don't find it any different unless you're in one of the '2's Also not all A330's go with that alignment, and not all 787 are 3-3-3.
I prefer window seats so 2-4-2 is a way better arrangement than 3-3-3 for me. Every mainline A330 in Asia that I've been on (it's definitely the workhorse of Asian regional flights on many airlines in the region) has been 2-4-2 - the only airlines that go 3-3-3 on the A330 are LCCs which I'd avoid like the plague anyway.

I am going to be on the 787 and the A350 next month one leg after another, this will be a great way for me to experience what the comfort and service quality is like for both types. They may both be equally miserable since I will be sitting in the back somewhere, better not be a sandwich in the aisle seats..

Ways to help make the condensed layout more palatable would be to pay a little more and snag an exit seat or a seat at the front of the class right at the partition.
The leg room increases would definitely help but its likely as good as it will get.

Oh and a side note, Amazon warehouse is now open and operational. It is not anywhere near full capacity yet though I wonder if the demand for amazon freight might someday warrant their Prime Air service to our airport. I could see this as a possible new cargo entrant into the local market since Prime Air has turned out to be a pretty successful venture for the tech giant..
I'm sure there must be other huge warehouses all across the country, especially in the GTA but I don't know of they get Prime Air or if they even serve Canada yet.

Yes, most likely. TK is getting 6 B789s next year. Assuming there are no delays in deliveries, IST- YVR could start as soon as summer 2019. They want a slice of the YVR-South Asia pie.

I think Prime Air is a long shot. Canada is a much simpler country to serve. I guess maybe if demand in non-DC centres is large enough? Maybe if Winnipeg never has enough demand to have its own DC? Would that be worth flying in all Prime goods overnight to have next day delivery? Or Halifax for the Atlantic provinces?

How exactly is Transat a cancerous ULCC? Personally I find their trans-Atlantic economy product equal to or better than most of the legacy carriers and definitely better than what Westjet offers on their 767s. Transat also pays their employees quite well given they're a leisure carrier.

Well if you want to fly Narita from Calgary it is a 2-4-2 dreamliner that will take you there via YVR. Definitely the most comfortable Y option from YYC.

When did this happen?

I haven't seen any news about YVR in the Turkish thread on a.net for a couple of weeks

789s are 3-3-3. A 763 is 2-3-2.

I traveled on the AC858 last week from YYZ-LHR, operated by a high density B-777-300. Seating was 3-4-3 and to be honest while less than ideal it wasn't that bad. It helped that I knew what I was getting in to and I selected an aisle seat in advance. For passengers in the centre two seats they are still only one seat away from the aisle. The only penalty that was noticeable to me was seat width. Personally I was okay but for larger oversize folks that would be a challenge. Seats in premium economy would be a viable option for those that could afford it. Something I always watch on high volume flights is line ups for the washrooms. I myself got up twice and used the forward facility with only a one person wait. Second time it was busier and I walked to the rear lav and it was deserted. A bit of a logistic though because F/As were moving trolleys around. While I would never promote or condone this configuration it definitely can be workable for the experienced passenger. It probably helped that we crossed that night in 5hrs 45mins, travelling to Delhi or Mumbai might have altered my opinion somewhat LOL.

Is the 2nd YYC-SFO taking the place of one of the YVR-SFO flights?

There are other airlines besides AT that do the 3-3-3 arrangement on an A330, but they are all low cost carriers Phillipines Airlines used to do it, but most other that do it are smaller low cost carriers like a AT. Personally I would take a 767 over an A330 even with a 2-4-2 arrangement, and even If I'm in one of the window seats.

If you think a 9 abreast 310/330 is better than a standard 767 I'm not sure I'll ever win this argument.

WS has also re-adjusted some of its departure times:

-Afternoon Transborder bank moves from 14:30 to 17:30.
-Noon time arrivals from SFO / LAX / LAS / PHX

Clearly being done to allow for potential connections to wherever they decide to fly the 787s (and LGW of course). Curious if these schedule adjustments could mean the announcement could be coming as soon as this week?

I would imagine with those connection times the first flights will be heading east to Europe?

October 10th is when they announce the first 787 destinations, so this Wednesday is the magic day.

Curious to see how many routes they do announce tomorrow. I'm 85% certain one will be CDG for S19.

I agree that CDG seems very likely.

Well NH flies from YVR - Haneda so I definitely was not talking about them.

Japan Airlines flies YVR - Narita in a 787-8 with a 2-4-2 configuration, so definitely the most conformable way to get to Japan from YYC. You get the benefits of the better cabin comfort of a dreamliner without the skinny seat width of an AC or NH dreamliner.

JAL still uses 2-4-2 on all their dreamliners, both -8 and -9 varities.

In summer, wouldn't 763 Y be most comfortable direct to NRT?

Over a JAL dreamliner? Not at all.

Seats are virtually the same width, same pitch, but the dreamliner has much better air, is much quieter, and has better seat back screens.
