My guess is that trip advisor created these at map based on the YouTube and got a few details wrong.

I noticed that too, I believe the door 2 position is wrong, they should be behind the premium economy seats, not ahead

In latest quarter earnings, AC's RASM is 14.4 cpm, WS is 13.7 cpm. AC's CASM is 15.1 cpm, and WS is 14.1 cpm. Yield: AC is 17.3 cents, WS is 16.4. Pretty close where it counts.

I'm not going to attempt to do a serious analysis of AC vs WS here, but suffice it to say that it's misleading to focus on the revenue per employee numbers.
Revenue per Employee is a pretty Standard metric in financial analysis. It has some importance, but usually used while looking at the entire company.

If a company has a high revenue per employee, its a sign company has an efficient operation, and price point customers are willing to a premium for. It is often used to compare you against industry benchmarks and vs your own company over time. Generally you want your revenue per employee to grow over time, it shows you are efficiently putting on revenue - especially if top line sales are growing.

It is a metric that is used often. Hardly rare.

Frontier has now loaded its schedule through the end of April.

-DEN drops to 2x weekly for the winter months (No tues flight from 02OCT until 19FEB)
-Still no LAS after 12DEC. Booking engine also says the route is 'seasonal', so may return next summer?

Westjet and Frontier probably finding it a bit tough against UA’s hub there.

As for LAS yeah perhaps an experiment that didn’t go as planned. Huge market but a WestJet stronghold on that route.

A good chunk of WS Network Scheduling leadership is exUA. I wouldn't surprise me if WS went into DEN in part because of the schedulers familiarity with the market. The YYC-DEN market is also a key request of a few major corporate customers, so that would add to the priority for the market.

The scheduling problem is trying to make the market work for all three pax types (YYC based, DEN based, and connections in YYC). To capture all three markets requires 3 flights per day, even then the connections are not ideal. The market is probably 50% YYC based, 30% DEN based, and 20% connection based. But you need to double daily to capture the DEN based traffic.

AUGUST STATS RELEASED

Another strong month but again domestic leading the charge. Almost the entire aggregate gain was due to domestic. Domestic as a % of all traffic hit almost 75% in August compared to less than 73% last August.

Mediocre Transborder but International fell 4.4%. International at Alberta airports really taking a hit in the third quarter.

http://www.yyc.com/Portals/0/MEDIA/Media-PassengerStats/br_paxtotal.pdf

Overall up 8.3% up 137,000
Domestic up 10.8% up 129,000
Transborder up 4.7% up 14,000
International down 4.4% down 6,000

Well if it's any consolation, some of us understood your humor. But yes, it wasn't your best work.

And WS already has an E175 of sorts. It's called a Q400.

International bleeding is starting, will get much worse in the winter probably.
Hopefully it's a temporary thing, until Westjet 787s arrive. I believe they will be announcing routes in a couple of weeks

Any idea why international is down? Economy related?

As someone who hasn't had cable for years I haven't seen a single WS ad. Didn't even know they were marketing the 787s.

Weird they don't have an online presence at all. Especially since a lot of my ads are aviation related based on by browsing history.

Excited to see where they are headed though.

Sorry, online ad presence.

I have most definitely been to the site.

Which makes it all the more remarkable that I haven't seen one targeted ad.

I don't use any ad blocking and I haven't seen one yet, tons of AC ads, Hainan ads, etc...

Strange they would only push traditional media ads.

I wonder if it's my location? Only advertising in Calgary, not Toronto or Vancouver?

Back when they first announced their 787 website I did see an ad for it a few times on Facebook. I guess the algorithm decided you didn't need the link!

I have seen Oct 10 as the date mentioned on a couple of other forums.

This is from a user on flyertalk:

Quote:
Sat next to a deadheading WS employee on a flight last night. Employee said Dreamliner routes will be announced Oct 10th, and that the routes are being held "super top secret", an virtually no one knows what they will be. Also said that initially all Dreamliner flights will be ex YYC (3 aircraft) and international flights will start spring 2019 after a period of domestic flying.

I still feel that international is down in large part due to Air Canada's expansion of international flights from its hubs at YYZ/YUL/YVR. Passengers are being funneled domestically to catch a connecting international flight. So the passenger traffic is still there, but it is being calculated for statistical purposes as domestic as the passenger is now flying to an Air Canada hub to make the connection to an international point. Just look at how many cities in Europe, Asia, and Australia AC has added in recent years. Gone are the days flying AC YYC-LHR-???, instead, passengers are flying AC YYC-YYZ-??? (or similar).

That's the essence of international flying. Air Canada pushes all international flying through the "main hubs" (aka all hubs but YYC) with the exception of the LHR/FRA/NRT routes. We are seeing reductions in international service (e.g. BA LHR to seasonal, NRT to seasonal) so it's up to WS to turn the tide.

That makes sense. I suppose if Westjet branches out into international it could move the numbers back up, if they don't go for a route already serviced by AC.

I haven't looked into this at all, but is international down at other non-AC hub airports? (YEG, YOW, YWG, etc..)
