Given their views on the West End Plan, it's not surprising that Councillors Affleck and Ball voted against the proposal. Still, I find it weird that Councillor Carr managed to find a way to justify voting against the world's largest passive house building.

Excellent news that this is approved. This will be such a great addition to an area that is promising to be very interesting.

As tacky as it may be, I wish they would add a bit more "art deco" in the design in terms of gargoyles etc.

This one is going to look hella nice and it's gonna get better with age.

Now let's add 20 more floors to it .

Can't believe the city approved this fake crap. Vancouver is no longer a leader but a follower, of countless places that felt the need to recreate the same variety of styles as everyone else.

My concern is the exact opposite. I know they're planning to make this Passive House, and so an ultra green building, but they're also saying it will be clad in limestone, and the City's experiences with trying to stop algae colonising City Hall suggests it could be a greener building than the artists impressions suggest.

In all honesty - you're probably right, I did not think as far ahead.

The architecture I think will remain timeless, not sure about the maintenance side of things.

Scrubbing them down with an effective cleaner twice a year should do the trick. This, of course, means extra maintenance fees, but I'm sure the residents will be able to afford that.

I just found out about this project from the Latest Additions diagram thing and I have to say, you guys have lucked out to get a pair of Stern towers clad in real limestone—I knew Vancouver is expensive but I didn’t think there was any market strong enough outside NYC to support the expense of new limestone buildings. If his towers there are any indication, these two will look like they’ve been part of the skyline for 100 years, as if they’re some never-built proposal from the depression era that was finally realized.

Thanks for the renders, OD !! I love this project better than just about anything else in the city, it's so classy and elegant! The new buildings around it will really "enlarge" the city core.

That's an interestingly selective aerial view. There are a couple of new towers slipped in behind the Stern towers, but the Bosa Ole Scheeren and Westbank Kengo Kuma towers are missing, even though those are already underway and will be much more dramatic architecturally. There are a couple of others that would be in front too; the replacement for Georgian Towers, if it goes ahead, and the James Cheng tower site on West Georgia (which is shown in the background on the first render).
