It's actually "One Austin" which is what the developer (Richman Group) is now naming their tower that was previously known as East Avenue Apartments, Town Lake Lofts and originally North Shore Lofts.

Thanks

I like that so many of the hotels in the Live Music Capital of the World have a musical theme:

The Thompson Twins
Hotel Van Zandt
Hotel Van Halen
(Do you know the way to) the Hotel San Jose
The Hotel Indigo Girls
W is for Willie
Austin City Limits Proper
Waylon Jennings Marriott
White Denim Lodging
The Four Seasons
Moxy

There was a Hard Rock Café for a while on 6th Street, but it didn't last. Because why would you go there instead?

The restaurant sucks, but the hotel is decent.

I never stayed at a Hard Rock. But I've eaten at the one on the River Walk a few times, and I like it. But with that said, it doesn't stand out among the many restaurant options available these days.

I'm glad Hard Rock didn't last here, it's a cookie cutter tourist trap restaurant. I much prefer better home grown tourist trap restaurants instead...

Hard Rock actually would have been cool in Austin.......in 1983. It was cool brand for about 3-5 years, people used the t-shirts to show off the different cool towns they'd been to. Great marketing for that time.

When it was build... we were all like "huh? What? Why have a tourist version when you can have the real thing....... Everyone stayed away in droves!
So glad it went away .... belongs on the river walk.

No pics but spotted soil testing at Edgecliff and Riverside today, near the historic home that was initially planned for renovations. Whatever is built here will have the best views of the skyline.

https://abc.austintexas.gov/web/perm...rtyrsn=5312636
Following up on this item, the case details were posted online. They're proposing 331 apartment units along with 30,000 SF of retail. Not bad for 3.65 acres along an otherwise meh stretch of Koenig/North Lamar.

Along with this there are a few other N Lamar-ish projects worth keeping an eye on, coincidentally all within the Lamar/Justin TOD plan area:
  • Crestview Station Phase VI (7400 N Lamar) - This is the lot adjacent to the recently completed Crestview Commons. Expedited review is pending
  • Crestview Highline (6324 N Lamar) - 100 apt units; 3,500 SF retail on 1.26 acres. Seems to be under review right now.
  • 6705 N Lamar - This was proposed across the street from those sketchy motels. 158 apt units; 1,343 SF retail on 0.83 acres. Currently inactive but maybe they'll resubmit with corrections? It's nice to know at least someone is looking in the area.
  • St. John's West - Currently under construction at St. John's and Guadalupe. Interesting b/c they are apparently doing underground parking. 297 units over 2.43 acres.

Yeah, the St. John's site is a massive pit right now (and a strange-shaped lot too). I live just a few streets over, I'll try to get a pic sometime.

Self storage unit on South Lamar that is about to go away:

1515 South Lamar Boulevard (self storage adjacent to the new densit place with the awful mural art of willie flossing... adjacent to the strip mall with starbucks that used to have a slick willies.

Per Towers, it's 328 units.

Are things feeling kind of quiet lately? Maybe it's just me, maybe it's just the board traffic has fallen off.

But things feel kinda quiet.

It's either been too hot or too rainy for me to get out on my bike and take photos. hopefully that will change soon.

It does seem a little quiet considering there is so much going on it. New renderings of a big project triggers traffic. It's been a little bit since we had some nice new renderings to gaze at.

Yeah, agreed. It's not that crazy things aren't going on in the city. We're just at one of those lulls. Give it a week or so and it'll pick back up.

The backup files for Monday's Design Commission meeting haven't been posted yet. But there's a chance Block 185, 91 Red River or 5th & Lavaca renderings could be posted. I think 91 Red River is the best bet because the site plan is further along and recently went back into review after being inactive for that rumored floor increase.

Our main posters are preoccupied...

Kevin is busy updating his Lego cityscape.
ATX is spending every night up to his eyeballs in city permits.
Jdawg has chained himself to what remains of the Warehouse District.
Genral is lost in IKEA.

I do have some photos to post. I even have some of San Antonio to post. I've just kind of been in a funk lately, plus other stuff, and yeah, the weather.
