All that would be needed is strategic passing tracks. Forget about the concept of expecting many downtown commuters using it. If a few use it, fine.

With a short bus or train transfer to Algonquin College and Carleton, expect this to be attractive to students as well.

This would provide a service that does not exist today, which is the way to grow overall ridership. Remember the unexpected success of the original O-Train, which related to providing a totally new service.
This I would agree with. If designed this way, I would have it as a crosstown DMU line starting in Kanata North, stopping in Bells Corners and the Queensway Carleton Hospital, through Nepean stopping at all the major arterials along the way, through to Greenboro, then continuing past Greenboro through the yard to terminate at Walkley & Hawthorne (industrial park), with an eye on extending into south Orleans in the future by rebuilding the abandoned track.

To integrate into the rapid transit network, it would make sense to build an infill station in the Confederation Line at Corkstown, and make a short extension of the Baseline spur down to the railway ROW (the section needed is part of the area where the ROW is already reserved; the hard part where a tunnel would have to be built under Woodroffe doesn't start until south of the tracks) for a junction station just north of Knoxdale & Woodroffe.

I would tweak the route slightly in Kanata. After crossing March, I would have the line diverge from the existing railway along a new route through the bush to terminate at Innovation Drive, to put more of the business park within walking distance of the line.

This is a logical use of the crosstown railway track. A Kanata North-Tremblay express train is not.

I don't think it makes sense to have a cross town rail line end at Hawthorne. Other than the industrial park there's basically nothing there to promote ridership and development opportunities in the area are very limited.

It would make more sense ridership and transit wise to keep the line going to Tremblay and have it terminate there. If it were to be extended to Orleans it would also be easier from Tremblay since it's a more direct path to the abandoned corridor.

This isn't any new information or anything, but a link to Capital Railway's three year plan was added to OC Transpo's "about" page early last year.

I wonder why... /s

Good Day.

I believe they moved it here from where it used to be, which was the O-Train page, which got subsumed by the T-Line of the O-Train, which was subsumed into Route 2 of the overall travel maps / planner. So they needed a place to put it (IMHO a reasonable place) since it is a regulatory requirement to have it publicly available someplace.
Anyways, FYI, it has been on OC-T's website for many years (current 2016-2018, previous iterations, and presumably the next iteration too).

EnJoy.

Ah, I didn't know it was on the old O-Train page.
According to the wayback machine, it's only been on the about page since last year.

Moose Consortium Inc. has posted online several documents relating to the Canadian Transportation Agency's determination relating to the track connecting Ottawa and Gatineau.

Clive Doucet just announced regional rail map like MOOSE's in his platform: https://twitter.com/CliveDoucet/status/1037725963986116609

So obviously he would cancel Trillium stage 2 in favour of this. A few existing stations would be lost (with Carling being an important one). Any word on his stance for Stage 2 Confederation?

If we're keeping diesel for Trillium, might as well do this. With a few more stations within the existing Trillium corridor (existing stations + Gladstone and Walkley) and the airport spur, maintain 8 to 12 minute frequency on the central trunk, a system between GO Transit and TO's RER might not be such a bad idea, as long as Confederation's expansion is not compromised.

Where's the ridership and funding for all this? And what the hell is an Ottawa councillor doing pitching regional rail to Smiths Falls and Chelsea, when there is still so much to do inside Ottawa?

This would serve parts of Ottawa that are not currently in the immediate plans. It would also remove cars from the road coming from outside the city and possibly collect fares from people living outside the Ottawa boarders.

To be clear, I'm trying to look at this in an objective way. I'm in no way sold on this. I still prefer the current Watson plan of extending to Kanata and Barrhaven for Stage 3 and have within (roughly) 10 years an LRT system that serves every suburban community, with the hopes that we can then shift to the urban needs following that.

I get that Trillium Stage 2 is not optimal. They half-assed it. And should have put in at least twin tracks. But this is just ridiculous. It's a multi-transfer mess to the core for many riders. Would screw over tons of Trillium Line riders today by closing their stations. And screws over all of Riverside South.

And all that is assuming that the province and the feds would fund such a ridiculous plan. This is plan that has billion dollar price tag written all over it. And ridership numbers that might well need an 80% subsidy.

I guess he's decided that the only way to win is to completely ignore voters inside the Greenbelt and only court suburban votes.

How much of this regional network overlaps (and potentially conflicts with) Via's current service area any any potential frequency expansions?

You know this is all that I was talking about all along.

Virtually no overlap other than perhaps Smiths Falls. Even then, VIA is not really designed for commuter service.

Overlaps on the Montreal line too.

But VIA doesn't have any stations along the section of the proposed rail line.

If they ended all of the Quebec lines at a multi-modal hub at Bayview it might work. That would increase the need for the 2nd lrt crossing, though.

You've been arguing that this should be addressed before any other priority including the bus congestion in the core.

You don't deal with the paper cut before you treat the gaping stab wound.

Doesn't mean they don't have plans for more traffic. Last I checked, HFR is still on the table. And who exactly does Doucet envision reimbursing VIA for the costs of additional track and maintenance of these lines?

What's the ridership to justify this? Gatineau needs transit to serve it's downtown core, not just Ottawa's.

Except Bayview cannot be a rail hub. There is not enough space for a rail yard for all the terminating trains. Trains would have to operate with through routing. A storage and maintenance facility would have to be located well away from the centre of the city.
