TrueViking eluded to the rough timetables a few posts ago. We all have to wait.

Does look better in the cbc renders. They call it the Tree Top Lookout,, which is stretching the truth if its level with the road.

There will be trees making it more hidden then a sidewalk on the street. Don't get me wrong, we should still build amenities like this. I'm just pointing out that people will need to be extra vigilant at night and perhaps avoid it for the sidewalk on tache late at night.

So it will be not different than the many many km's of bike paths, walkways through parks etc in the city. Including the path a stone's throw to the south that runs between the hospital and the Red River, or the path just to the North that runs under the Provencher bridge and through Parc Joseph Royal and on through Whittier park. As far as I know none of those locations have been plagued with violence. Let's not be alarmist.

The tree cover is also actually pretty thin there as many of the trees on that side of the river are dead/dying. The render makes it look like dense forest but in reality it will be highly visible from the road.

I'd be perfectly happy with a couple packing lot fillers being 10-15 Stories.

Did you check the documents within the link?

Here's a direct link to the open house it boards. It has cross-sections that show the heights and such. The walkway will be among the tree tops, not overtop.

https://winnipeg.ca/publicworks/construction/pdf/TachePromenade/InfoSessionBoards.pdf

I think it's great and will be a cool vantage point. And will be just fine for safety.. What would be the concern?

Agreed, with setbacks and/or staggered floors for visual interest.

I walked by there this afternoon,, the elms along the river are over twice as high as the "tree top" belvedere. Cut them down, and plant shorter trees when the elms die of disease. I seem to remember a render that was high,, like with a bridge over Tache(old render)? which is why I am so surprised,, the "tree top lookout" is pretty short.

Do you mean in the Best Western Hotel parking lot? I wondered what that big truck was spilling out onto the sidewalk today (yuck).

That parking lot has problems all the time.

There's something planned for that site. Nothing super tall, I don't think, but will fill up part of a very vacant part of downtown.

There's another proposal that will take away more surface parking too far away, too.

More like 12-18. A good height for this part of downtown. I shouldn't say anything more, and I have no idea if this is one of the proposals Viking etc. are talking about.
