Painting is great, but it has to be maintained. I would chemically clean the building, stripping off the nasty paint.

I don't think the Red River campus building is within the confines of the historic district. I believe it's just outside of it.

The argument we should preserve as-is for the film industry is moot as the city now has a "we don't give a shit" attitude when in comes to infra/streetscape design in the area. Good lord. Look, one of things I have trying to get through to you people - apparently to no avail - is that the Exchange has not been preserved for movie sets. There is no National Winnipeg Movie Set Historic site designation that requires the Exchange be preserved for movie sets. This is a total red herring. I am merely pointing out that the reason the Exchange is a national historic site since 1997 is because of the collection of the period buildings that exist in concentration in one area. There are design considerations that go into preserving that character, for example height restrictions and so on. One of the reasons you have standards is because there can be a slippery slope where this is let go and that is let go, and eventually you lose the historic character. One of the things they ran into at the Pumphouse for example was conformity with design standards. That said, I don't have a lot of faith in the City of Winnipeg to maintain the standards. No matter how much Esquire wants to build a 30 storey Nutty Club warehouse with zip lines down to Portage and Main, it likely would not meet the design standards. It's no wonder people get salty or peppery sometimes around here because even basic concepts seem to be difficult to get across. Despite all this, the Exchange is thriving and will continue to do so.

You claim that modern design is incompatible with the Exchange District, but there are clearly many examples of modern design already there as has been pointed out numerous times in this thread. How can an area that has the Cube, Mere, the PSB and the Strand suddenly be under dire threat by a small new building on Princess?

So what is the problem, then? No one is disputing that the Exchange District is a designated historical area. The issue is regarding the proposed building on Princess.
