I was surprised too, so double checked to make sure this was right. Turns out the threshold for residential developments in a DX-12 is 330 ft and 350 units.

From Wrigley rooftops. What tower crane is that? (Right above the Bud sign) One of the Belmont projects?

Is that 450 Belmont or are they far enough along on 3300 N. Clark?

Isn't that the tower crane for the building on Broadway (in between Sheridan and Grace) that was supposed to have that large food hall?

Can’t be Clark. Way too far to the east.
Not Grace either. Grace is north of me.

Left Field bleacher seat looking south east.

It has to be 450 Belmont.

Yes. I’ve seen that crane.

Anyone know if Wilson and Sheridan is getting a tower crane? None yet, and it’s on the first floor.

I don't think so. They have a pretty decent sized lot next to the project; enough room for the current crane (and a possible bigger one too) they have now and staging...

Printer's row losing surface lots gets me more excited than West Loop stuff if I'm being honest. I love the idea of a more active Printer's Row that can connect the South Loop and Loop in a more pedestrian friendly manner. As of right now, it feels like unless you are on Michigan avenue or State Street, you just aren't in a good area.

I like the vibe of Wabash between Roosevelt and Harrison. But way too many surface lots.

I remember seeing movies as a teen as Burnham Plaza cinemas as a teen.
But for real that area always felt like a blank especially riding the orange line from Roosevelt to Library.

I don’t think most new construction in Chicago is useful for “connecting” areas, unfortunately. It’s the parking garages, vehicle access, and the ground floor retail design (if it exists) that are to blame. It is not pleasant to walk past most new residential buildings.

I think this post is utterly false and tainted by your obsession over a single issue.

Most new construction in downtown Chicago has done wonders to fill in otherwise bleak streetscapes (exceptions being when historic buildings were torn down, and even then it's not always a loss), regardless of whether there is parking above the first floor.

On another note, I was in Streeterville last weekend, and I have to tell you that every year this area (sans the sterile Northwestern Hospital sterile-zone) gets more and more crowded with foot traffic. I'm really loving how this neighborhood is evolving from the parking lot hell of the late 90's to a bustling district today. These new developments are making a positive difference

it has gotten better, and the new park will help again as that becomes the main corridor between mich ave and navy pier

as for the chicago magazine mockup. I still don't count on the giant tower on Tribune property to get built.

OCS the next closest to going, IMO

Lovely Mockup. Vista is smack in the middle of Wacker, WPS is on the wrong axis and at least a block North of where it should be, Tribune Addition is South of where it should be and also on the other side of Wabash, and the South tower of 400 LSD is in DuSable Park. Rgarri could have done a better job handcuffed and blindfolded.
