I think this post is utterly false and tainted by your obsession over a single issue.
Most new construction in downtown Chicago has done wonders to fill in otherwise bleak streetscapes (exceptions being when historic buildings were torn down, and even then it's not always a loss), regardless of whether there is parking above the first floor.
On another note, I was in Streeterville last weekend, and I have to tell you that every year this area (sans the sterile Northwestern Hospital sterile-zone) gets more and more crowded with foot traffic. I'm really loving how this neighborhood is evolving from the parking lot hell of the late 90's to a bustling district today. These new developments
are making a positive difference
