2nd Portman Proposal w/this month's DRC

5:30 NEW APPLICATION: Georgia Tech Microgrid- 770 Spring St.
Project Type: The proposal is for open air power generation research facility known as a ‘Microgrid’ at
the northeast corner of 4th St. and Williams St. All components, including fuel cells,
battery storage, micro turbines, etc., would be placed on a platform and screened from
view with 7’ high fencing including gate access along Williams St. Georgia Tech and
Georgia Power would partner on the project with power generated intended to be
delivered to the HPCC one block east.

Project Type: The proposal is a Class A office development of 23 stories including a double height
lobby and retail space of 5,100 SF at the northeast corner of West Peachtree and 3rd St.
Above the lowest level is six (6) levels of podium parking with ~520 parking spaces
topped by 16 stories of 335,000 SF office uses (Street Advocate Edit for reference: Anthem is listed as 21 stories & 600,000 sq. ft.).The site’s primary pedestrian access is
from West Peachtree St. with a 3 lane curbcut along 3rd St. The project is proposing to
share loading access from the adjacent western alley in-line with the adjacent
development at 740 West Peachtree St. (Anthem HQ).

Project Type: New 4-story residential townhouses with 18 units of 44,565 s.f. configured in three (3) pods
of 6, 4 and 8 units. All of the 3 and 4 bedroom units is accessible by foot via a shared 4’-0”
walkway connecting 14th St. and 14th Pl. Parking is provided at 2 spaces per unit (36 total)
accessible via a side and rear driveway also connecting 14th St. and 14th Pl. Open space
includes a lap pool, park green and a dog run. Office of Design are the architects of record.

Auto Ignition and Battery is going to look even more out of place with that tower next to it...

This tower was supposed to be residential when it was first proposed, I doubt they are building spec...crazy that 1105 hasn't started yet...

I decided to go by the site just now and there’s clearly been no movement recently.

The article stated the new office tower would be developed on the northeast corner of West Peachtree & 3rd streets. Isn't that the current location of Auto Ignition and Battery?

The residential tower was slated for the southeast corner of West Peachtree & 3rd, which is where the vacant branch building awaits demolition - adjacent to Anthem tower.

So, is South Midtown getting another spec tower? I remember conversations indicating that the demand for space in Coda was through the roof and additional space would be needed because Coda was leasing up rapidly.

Can't wait to see the renderings of this new tower.
IMHO opinion, this could possibly be tied to... Wait for it - AMAZON!

There is clearly some directional misdirection going on here-- 712 is directly adjacent to Anthem (Southern part of the same block, bank building)-- this would be the Northwest corner of West Peachtree and 3rd-- the Northeast corner is the existing former Bell South/ AT&T office building (not likely to be demolished)--

No, this is an expansion of the Anthem development-- not Amazon-- isn't that going to DC anyway? ;-)

I have no news about Amazon either, but fairly certain I read where Anthem is keeping their HQ in Indy. Perhaps another Anthem building (non HQ) or spec?

HOLY SHIITES! That was fast! I know this would "fit" better in a different part of Midtown....it will be interesting to see a mid-rise over in those parts! Will certainly stand out (like Coca Cola has since the 1970s).

Just wanted to clarify this is no midrise. This will be the tallest building in west midtown.

As you can see from my "illustration" 740 West Peachtree/Anthem Tech HQ is Under Construction and now Portman is presenting 712 West Peachtree at the DRC. It was originally thought Anthem was going to move their Corporate HQ from Indy to Atlanta and that is the reason Portman was planning 712 West Peachtree. Anthem already extended their lease so 712 West Peachtree is not for them.

Coincidentally, Carl Icahn owns half of the block where Portman is planning/building 740 & 712 West Peachtree. So if you don't know who Carl Icahn is maybe this can jog your brain - He own 675 West Peachtree the 1.5 Million sqft tower AT&T is leaving in Q4 - even though their lease not up until 2021.

You connecting the dots now BS? Furthermore, something big happened today and I believe it is why we are seeing this Portman project pop up.
