Any news if they've reverted back to the original 70+ story tower? For what it's worth that original rendering is still up on the website.

They sent letters in June saying that their apartments won't be ready until September 30th.

Rode by it last night and they have to be getting really close. That or they're well ahead on the outside compared with finishing the interiors. There are trees up on one of the terraces, parts of the building painted yellow, windows installed nearly throughout (i think the southern facade was missing?).

I work in a building overlooking the Opus site. Sorry to say, I haven't seen any activity there in a long time.

Anyone know what the expected completion date for CS and the midtown Whole Foods is? I know its been mentioned before, but I can't search through all these pages to find it.

Thanks

LOTS of seemingly conflicting reports on Opus.

I believe the first stage of CS is next summer, but it's going to be ongoing for a few years from what I recall.

Midtown WF is way behind, they were supposed to open at least by late spring, but I believe they are now saying late fall.

One thing I like about Opus is that it's clearly excavating and you can see all the granite the developer has been speaking about. I agree that the hole is substantially deeper than I recall it even a month ago, despite lack of progress lately with all the rainy days (or what was reported by Neighbor).

Not really conflicting. They worked for two weeks to remove a 'bunch' of dirt/stone, but really did not do that much. And have not been on site the last week or so. Still pushing around dirt, and it a somewhat disorganized fashion.

For 5th & Juniper, they have the site fully excavated and have started drilling for their pilings. I'd expect concrete to be poured in the next week or so here.

Oooo I would have thought they'd bave done that by now. I just remember the concrete retaining walls being up a while ago. Nonetheless, I am very much excited for this project, although it may make getting my seat at Takorea more difficult

Yeah, it sat for a few weeks. Glad it's moving forward as well.

Next step for the area is to tear down Takorea , and the other 🞵🞵🞵🞵 along that side of the street.

Bab's and Takorea are definitely not "🞵🞵🞵🞵." It will be a loss when we lose them to redevelopment, I only hope they can afford to move somewhere close by.

Babs and Takorea might be two of the top local feeling spots in Midtown. I'll be sad to see them go (and agree 100% really hope they afford somewhere else close by!), but think a high rise or two would be better fitting at this location. Throw in the Eviva lot and it's not crazy to think we could see 3+ buildings go up on this block.

10th & Howell Mill Toll Brothers

Per Eric Mandel from the ABC (lumping this over here in addition to the other thread):
Quote:
Toll Brothers Apartment Living, the apartment division of Toll Brothers Inc. (NYSE: TOL), has dubbed its mixed-use development in West Midtown the "Osprey." The 319-unit apartment project at the corner of Howell Mill Road and 10th Street will include 13,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.

Atlanta Business Chronicle reported in May that the Horsham, Penn.-based homebuilding giant paid just under $10 million for multiple sites at 748 10th Street, 954 Howell Mill Road and 962 Howell Mill Road.

The homebuilder has partnered with CBRE Group Inc. (NYSE: CBRE) for retail and restaurant leasing.

This is Toll Brothers' second core acquisition since announcing its entrance into the Atlanta apartment market in May 2016. In March, the company said it started work on a 348-unit apartment building in Brookhaven.

Osprey sits on one of the highest elevations in West Midtown, with views of Downtown to Buckhead. The top two floors feature "luxury penthouses" that include large private outdoor living areas, Toll Brothers told Atlanta Business Chronicle. The complex's amenities also include a pool, fitness-on-demand studio, juice bar and a sky lounge with a community bar, co-working space, and demonstration kitchen. There is also a pet spa and a dog park.

Stephen Bates, the company's Atlanta director of acquisition and development, said he believes the project will extend the walkability in the Westside corridor that links the White Provision District and Marietta Street Artery.

Over the past decade, the West Midtown area along Howell Mill has transformed into a foodie hotspot, with popular restaurants and coffee shops including The Optimist, Octane and Cooks & Soldiers.

Toll Brothers expects to break ground on the project this summer, with the first apartments coming available in early 2020.

Can you snap a picture of the Opus site at your convenience?

Prominent downtown Atlanta block bought for almost $11 million by ABC's Amy Wenk

Movement again at the JR Crickets site.

Quote:
An Australian real estate company that’s expanding its intown Atlanta portfolio has picked up an entire city block near Bank of America Plaza, the latest momentum for the SoNo district that bridges Midtown and downtown.

Drapac Capital Partners has acquired 129 North Avenue, today the home of long-time Atlanta restaurant the Original J.R. Crickets.

Drapac Capital paid $10.75 million for the 1.7-acre site that’s bordered by North Avenue, Courtland Street, Linden Avenue and Willow Street. The deal closed July 30.

The 129 North Avenue site could be redeveloped as a substantial high-rise project with one or two towers and potentially 500,000 to 600,000 square feet. The site has no height restrictions.

Drapac is working with Atlanta’s ASD | SKY to design the project, along with another international architect. There are no immediate plans to start construction.

“Nothing is off the table,” Drapac said. “We are doing a highest-and-best-use study at the moment. We will be patient"...

...“We have been building our development pipeline,” Drapac said. “We are very bullish on the future of Atlanta, particularly with the downtown market ... We definitely want to bring an international flavor to our projects and a level of quality and uniqueness we feel many developments are missing.”

Wasn't there a plan to turn this lot into an old-folks skyscraper? I remember it being a tall and glassy.

JR Crickets is currently in an old IHOP, but the IHOP closed at least a decade ago.
