I'm more then Ok with the City trying to continue to cut business taxes and to simply the tax code. But I don't think it would be at all possible to 'tax cut' the way to the Philly becoming a successful magnet for attracting business. Its just too easy for someplace else to have fewer taxes. But what the City can do is try very hard and in a sustained manor, try to build on its strengths---like it's history and large blocks and neighborhoods of oldness, and it's cultural presence, and public transit-----and further grow them, and at the same time work on its weaknesses, like public education.
Why are companies willing to be in NYC where taxes and regulations are tight, the cost of doing business in 2 to 3 times what it is in Philly as in real estate, and the cost of getting employees is much higher then Philly? Do you think if the City lowered taxes by another point or two that companies would come knocking on City Hall's front door looking to move here? I'm not sure what the answers are, but a race to the bottom is one the City can never win (and I doubt that you are suggesting such a race)
This state has no interest in sound pro-business policy or leveling the playing field between its largest city and surrounding counties.

If it is Northern Virginia or suburban Maryland, everyone outside of Amazon (and probably a heck of a lot of people within it) will be confused.

It should also make it easier for cities to relate to the rationale for a Fail, by comparing themselves to the final stable of 3-5 horses.

^^I've said this before, but I think it would be at least a good public service for Amazon to announce a Top 5. If Philly makes that short short list it would be a boon to corporate recruitment and relocation efforts - global, free, positive publicity - and maybe we could finally land a Google outpost, or something similar.

Good point and in that, the effort put forth has very good ROI.

Google has had a huge "outpost" in NYC for over 10 years (their second largest office); there is no reason for them to decamp 1,000+ programmers to Philly.

It's fine to daydream, but the chances of a big investment by a big fish like Google/Microsoft, etc., before the glow from the Amazon chase fades is slim. Amazon is our brass ring; we won't be in this position for a very long time. But neither will anyone else, if that's any consolation.

Okay, for weeks I’ve sat by reading all of this dialogue about Amazon NOT choosing Philadelphia.

I’ve said very minimal, but now I’m going to speak up.

Personally, 200 Greenwich Street (A.K.A. 2 World Trade Center) needs a major lease to get built and Amazon would fit the bill perfectly.

Major transit hub is on-site.
It’s the perfect location.

But what do I know.

Schuylkill Yards is a good fit, but in a city competition, that is reality.
Philadelphia has a better tax structure, but there are major tax incentives to get 2 WTC built.

That’s my 2 cents.

Well unless they plan on making 2 WTC 4 times the size of 1 WTC then it’s not the perfect fit.

The moon is sorely in need of a good corporate headquarters and a nice skyscraper. I think they will put HQ2 there.

Amazon can and will go where ever they want to, and for whatever reasons they choose, but really, you think one building in lower Manhattan, in one of the most expensive cities in the country, is going to cut it? Is that even part of NYC's bid package?

Not happening-----my sources tell me!

Okay, I've said very little about Amazon since the search started but this topic has gone on for some time and its all based on speculation is seems so I'll jump in.

Many people are saying where Amazon will go or will not go; but I have a question. Does anyone here have inside information on what Mr. Bezos plans? Has Mr. Bezos told anyone anything?

This is what I see when it comes to Amazon and Skyscraperpage when it comes to us here in Philly. I assume we all love Philly. I assume we all love skyscrapers; now correct me if I'm wrong but I think we all love skyscraper. The thing is that talking about Amazon and Philadelphia Skyscrapers is a bit confusing because if we don't know if they're coming here, then we don't know if they'll build skyscrapers here.

If Amazon doesn't come to Philadelphia which I think would be bad for the city and the company because I think we have a lot to offer each other then Amazon wouldn't build a skyscraper here. If they don't come here; they won't build a skyscraper here so it wouldn't really be a concern for us who love skyscrapers.

If Amazon does come here which I believe would be great for this city and the company as well for many decades to come; they Amazon would build skyscrapers here but its to soon to really discuss it because we haven't seen the architectural design so it would be hard to talk about building that are still being considered at the earliest stages.

People, friends, we are a passionate bunch, we love this city, we love skyscrapers, but we see to be talking about a company who hasn't said much on what their final decisions are, if they will build or where so I'm wondering where does this lead and how do focus this energy into being productive. If by talking about this we can bring Amazon or any other company to Philadelphia then its worth it. lets be about action.

That's literally the point. One of the posters claims to have inside info. Like, that's the whole crux and foundation of the convo, mate.
