Tongue in cheek noted... YVR is also a major airport, and is definitely a major player on the world stage. It also takes a few shots from certain forumers here... so we have that in common..

Where did i say anywhere it was “the good old days”? I simply stated that in the early 2000s, Canada3000, Corsair and Condor all had service to Europe at some point.

I really didn't mean to be tongue and cheek LOL but re-reading it I can see how it sounded like that! I just realized that the competition and rankings and one-up-manship between cities is so exhausting, and pointless. It is a fact that the GTA is huge and is the dominant city, we are a country of under 40 million with one super major City, which is totally normal. Then we have secondary cities and so on, it's just the way it is, it's not something for non-Torontonians to grind their teeth about and get defensive about

Swoop to add U.S. routes from Hamilton

WestJet Airlines Ltd. says its ultra low cost Swoop airline will soon begin transborder service as it looks to regroup from a "deeply disappointing" second quarter when it was hurt by the impact of a pilot strike threat, intensified competition and soaring fuel costs.

Details about routes and the official start date will be announced later this week.

Reports suggest the Calgary-based airline will fly to Las Vegas, Phoenix, and Florida destinations including Orlando, Tampa, and Fort Lauderdale from low-cost airports in Canada like Hamilton and Abbotsford, B.C.

"We are clearly concentrating on those airports to help migrate the five million Canadians who are crossing the border to Buffalo and Bellingham (Wash.) and make sure that there's less need to travel on North American counterparts," WestJet CEO Ed Sims said Tuesday during a conference call.

Also, Primera will indeed launch CDG-YUL in winter. 6th carrier between the two cities. As per airlineroute.net

Primera Air last week announced new routes launch from Paris, including service to Montreal and Tel Aviv. Planned operation as follows.

Growth at YVR continues to roll, no soft spots at all this month and with recent new services to Europe and the US the growth should be strong through the summer.

Our Minister of Health and Community Services is meeting with the President of Air Canada about the reduction of service to Gander. He said the business is there and numbers have been rising 3-6% for the past five years. He said the changes add at least one and often two overnight stops for the province's commuter workforce that lives in rural NL but works a couple weeks at a time in ON and AB.

They've also changed their flight times so that Gander-bound passengers land at YYT after their connecting flight to Gander has already departed.

Swoop to launch transborder service in October to five tourist destinations

Swoop will become Canada’s first ultra low cost airline to fly to the United States when it launches service this fall to five popular tourist destinations in Florida, Nevada and Arizona.

The subsidiary of WestJet Airlines Ltd. will start Oct. 11 with flights to Las Vegas from Abbotsford, B.C., and Edmonton, Alta., about four months after Swoop began to fly.

Service will be added over the following couple of weeks between Hamilton, Ont., and Las Vegas as well as to the Florida cities of Fort Lauderdale, Orlando and Tampa Bay. Flights between Edmonton and Phoenix will start Oct. 27.

Most destinations will be serviced a few times per week but daily service will be flown between Edmonton and Las Vegas.

The transborder service will be launched to these U.S. gateways as Swoop receives delivery of its fifth and sixth airplane, said Swoop president Steven Greenway.

“They really blend well to the model that we provide in terms of low cost, high volume type of leisure profile that we definitely are targeting,” he said in an interview.

Everyday one-way fares start as low as $149 including taxes and fees through April, however it will offer 4,100 seats at low promotional fares of $99 and $119 for travel booked online until Feb. 13.

This is pretty normal for them. I usually see it between $750-800.

I think here in YVR, $700+ is considered expensive for TPAC. Normally you can get a round-trip in the $600s range, and a "killer deal" is in the range of $400s or lower

The last 5 times my family flew, the ticket price is all below $650 return... four of the flights are with AC and the length of flight is all longer than YYC-PEK... Makes me wonder if they're really making any money or not...
