Ian Fowler Oval and the performance stage on the plaza in front of the new events centre.

Close up of the trellises around the skating oval. You can see that they have already planted the vines which will grow to form a canopy enclosing the oval and the audience space in front of the stage.

The final product will end up looking something like this (the vine covered archway in front of Moncton City Hall).

I walked canada st yesterday at lunch.. its funny its not actually connected all the way through yet... it ends at concrete barriers and 1000 ft of pot holes to the via station. I wonder if they are planning on actually connecting the two ends this year or.. just removing the barriers and leaving it a typical NB rd.

I took a drive in this area from the train station entrance. From what I can see and speculate, Bird Construction appears to have complete their end of the contract in creating Canada Street from Main to the edge of the property line.

I assume it's now in the hands of the city themselves to complete the street to the train station. About 30m I'm guessing.

However, there's still the question concerning that ugly standing building between CN Plaza and Event Centre which is blocking the option to complete Weldon/Main street to connect to Canada street.

I suspect this is still under negotiation.

And speaking of this side of the Events Centre, I suspect Parcel A (#2) is now out of the project equation and no longer a proposed development.

There are trees and other landscape finished all done up on Parcel A.

I noticed that but there is always the possibility the city wants that plot not to look like a waste while there is no construction. There is always the chance that construction on that lot comes later.

The landscaping for both Parcel "A" and Parcel "C" is only temporary.

The plan for "Parcel C" was to have a small information kiosk, a place to rent skates and perhaps a coffee kiosk. I think this would have to be publicly built, and they probably don't have the cash to proceed for the time being. The landscaping here may be semi permanent.

As far as "Parcel A" is concerned, the plan all along was to put this up for sale for private development, but I'm sure the city is willing to wait until an appropriate proposal is brought forward. It's always been more of a priority to get "Parcel B" developed first, and with the new Hyatt Place Hotel, this has turned out quite well for the city.

I think a great idea for "Parcel A" would be a 3-5 storey mixed use building with a high end sports bar/restaurant on the ground floor. A location here would be immediately adjacent to the main entrance into the events centre. Can you imaging a better location for a sports bar/restaurant? I think it would be a slam dunk!

I think it would be great location for the first Maritime franchise of Le Cage aux Sport for example..........

A different perspective of the new Resurgo monument on the plaza in front of the new events centre.

from Mayor Dawn Arnold's FB page

I'm just back from a 10 day trip out of town. I'll endeavour to take some photos of my own in the next few days.

ouch.. that resurgo egg thing or whatever it is, doesn't look good. hopefully they install it in back of the building or somewhere that visitors and people going to the center don't see it. with that mount of money something really nice could have been made to represent the city better than that

can't see people voted for this thing?

It's going in a very visible location and, yes indeed, folks voted for this.
I hope it grows on me. I didn't care for the bird's nest on top of the fire station at first, but came to like it even though I think it costs too much.
This one, well, I have to agree with the majority about the egg. Maybe it will grow on me like the bird's nest did. I hope so.
I've already been asked multiple time what does "Resurg" mean - asked by lifelong Moncton residents no less!
The rest of it is nice. The concerns over the "egg" part of the art work were expressed by many people early on in the selection process. Not sure why Mr. Powning was not asked early in the process to find a different means of expressing the "O" in Resurgo.
Anyway, it's all ours now for better or for worse so I'm not going to waste any more breath on it.

Even just making the hole in the O a lot bigger would have made a world of difference.

I must start by saying I don't like this sculpture, it's more sign than sculpture, the theme Resurgo is great but a less literal interpretation would have been nice to see. That being said the opening could have been slightly moved up so that it's seen as the "O" in Resurgo and not just a random hole. If you're going to use typography at least do it properly.

Even if you get what the artist was attempting to go for or at least what has been speculated. It's still bad for the price.

What has been said, and I'm not sure if it was the creator of this piece who said it but This is not only a sign but supposed to show growth.

To me growth would mean spending the money wisely but that is just my take.

At this angle, you can see the tree outline woven into it better.
It's definitely not the best we could have gotten, but I remember some of the other options at the time and this was far from the worst.

In the immortal words of Mr. Burns:
"I don't know art, but I know what I hate... and I don't hate this."
