An interesting permit has appeared in the City's Watch Us Grow app:

29 Canterbury is the parking structure at the corner of Canterbury and Grannan, where the City released an RFP for prospective developers last June. The H103 code means it's a heritage permit, so we're likely to get more details about what's being proposed in an upcoming HDB agenda.

Have there been any murmors about the RFP at Canterbury and Princess? The one from when six-storey wooden structures were first announced to be allowed?

A render of the apartments planned for Wellington Row (Old Jellybean location) have been released. This is fantastic, it looks so nice.

They wish to begin construction by the end of the year and complete within 2 years.

Loving the height and street presence of that Wellington/Union project. Can't think of much that would be better in that location.

I'll reserve judgment for the Canterbury/Grannan project but the height is promising. I can't stress how great this all is to see. Infill is so vital to the Uptown right now and it looks like we'll be getting it soon.

Was in town last week and couldn't get over how great the Uptown was. Everything feels like it's on the up right now (except for stores and locations still being closed on Sundays...)

The Jellybean proposal looks sharp! I can foresee some pushback from certain quarters, but I hope they stick with the contemporary design and we see shovels in the ground by the end of the year

So the rules have changed on the size of wood structure approval up to 6 floors? I'm guessing the means the two new construction jobs (Jellybean & Canterbury parking lot) be wood build, since they're both planned to be 6 storey buildings.

From last week:

flickr, my photos

If the Wellington/Union project is going to be six storeys I imagine it would be visible in these shots as well (poking above the ABEC).

^^^ Thanks for posting! Saint John is underrepresented on this forum, so great to see a new shot. Irving Oil is a great addition and adds nicely to the density downtown.

After doing a lot of digging I found some information on the development of 91 King and the refurbishment of 22 and 70-76 King by Integrity Real Estate Investments.

70-76 King
Quote:
IREI acquired it in the late 2016, and seeing it for the first time in April 2017. It's stripped down to the studs, and to be renovated to high end apartments for rental purpose. The main floor had two retail units, are now being opened up to become one bigger and brighter space. We anticipate to complete this project by the end of July, 2018. Stay tuned! https://www.integrityreinvest.com/current-projects

22 King
Quote:
IREI acquired this property in March 2018. The intention is to maintain the main and second floors as commercial lease space, and to convert the upper floors to condos. There will be a roof top terrace with small putting green, a large checker board, and covered relaxation space. There will also be storage, gym, and lounge in the basement. Oh, we almost forgot to mention that there will be 24-hour concierge in the grand lobby! https://www.integrityreinvest.com/current-projects

91 King
Quote:
IREI closed on 91 King in April 2018 after a complicated process. The current structure is sound, IREI intends to lease the existing spaces to national restaurants, preferably to house a movie theater, or a national convenient store. Once the tenancy is stabilized, we intend to add more residential components to the existing structure, and will be working closely with the City planning department to achieve the necessary density. Once again, the plan is to have roof top terrace, perhaps a swimming pool & hot tub, small putting green, checker board, and BBQ space. Phase 1 is starting in May 2018, and phase II is slated for early 2019. https://www.integrityreinvest.com/current-projects
Here is a photo of the inside of 91 King taken in April. No word on how many stories will be added to 91 King but I expect we'll find out when phase two in early 2019 begins.

The glorious flashes of light stemming from the Loyalist House represent exactly how I feel about that building.

That's a great looking render. Great density and height with improved street presence. I like how the facade has attempted to mimic the Loyalist House's rock base. We'll see how the cladding materials come out but overall it looks very promising.

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts will be adding 109 to their facility here in Saint John which already employs over 600 people. Construction on the multi millionaire 1,600 square foot expansion of their building on Crown Street is suppose to begin next week.

Up to 200 jobs are expected to be announced for Saint John within the week and additionally more are expected leading up to the September election.
Quote:
There a good chance Gallant will be in Saint John at more of these types of announcements.

The Liberal government says a total of 200 new jobs are expected to be announced in the city within the next week.

The New Brunswick Museum is hosting a public information and feedback session next Tuesday regarding their new facility. Though the invitation isn't clear on if there will be any preliminary concepts unveiled, hopefully we can at least get a better idea of their proposed timeline and project partners. I encourage SSPers to attend and submit comments to reinforce a high quality, urban-friendly design.

So turns out we did get a first look at the concept for the new NBM facility on the Coast Guard site! A few photos (mine) below:

Site plan and massing study

Floor plan

Conceptual rendering (with a prominent PRELIMINARY disclaimer below the panel)

IMO, they seem to be on the right track here, with an iconic building in mind. I'd like to see how the southern (back) facade relates to the public realm, but overall I left the session feeling encouraged. Hopefully the necessary funding materializes to make this aspirational vision possible.

I'm told that an online place to submit comments is forthcoming, so there is still a chance to have your voice heard concerning the new facility. We'll see how the design evolves over the coming months.
