Boldest thing to happen in Vancouver for a long while. Refreshing.

But there appears to be a small imperfection at the top (i.e., a broken panel or some stuck-on film):

Love the splash of colour. Adds a lot to the False Creek view. This project turned out pretty well.

This is so bold! It really really stands out if you're looking downtown from the Fairview/South False Creek area. I never expected such a combination of colours!

It doesn't look so bad from ground level, the darker blue is more "reasonable".

I like it from close up. Not entirely sure how I feel about how it looks from the bridge. I'll have to see it in person. How is something this bold never depicted in any of the renderings?

Anyone else notice the row of columns going up the inside of the building, second from the right in the first picture? Why would they suddenly stop like that and more so why are they all wonky at the top?! Odd.

Love the size of the podium. This is what a podium should look like Vancouver! Not 2 storey townhouses. Also really nice that thee is no grass strip by the sidewalk, is the city finally learning?

Why doesn't the laneway have any of the new streetlights installed? It's great that all the hydro lines are gone. I've noticed many of the laneways with them removed now

Right, how was this never depicted before in renderings during the whole approval process? Yet if they wanted to increase the height by a foot there would be public notifications all over the place lol

Yeah i saw it from the bridge and thought it looked kind of tacky. Given the pricepoints on the suites, I expected something a little classier.

I've stared at this and trying so hard to like it, but the pink at the top still bothers me.

I guess it's like any art, ie. it is supposed to evoke a reaction good or bad?

Probably plaster walls rather than columns.
A result of the customized suites.

Wow, this was completely unexpected. I don't know what to think, as it will surely alter a traditional skyline shot QUITE A BIT.

This reminds me of some plattenbau high-rise art in Berlin, like Gustavo Haus. I have never really been a fan of it, so not sure what to make of this.

I am really surprised how this got stealth approved. I am not sure if I hope this to become a new trend...

Thanks mcminsen for the pic!

Now let's talk: I tried, I tried, I tried to like it. And I'm usually one who likes these kinds of things but I just don't have it in me. It's cheesy.

However, I will commend the people who passed this: they had some balls to allow this to happen. Unfortunately this will probably be used as a reason to continue carbon-copying every future tower. Better question: is it permanent?

I think it would be nicer if the pattern had a finer grain - even if it were a bold overall pattern.
I like the more detailed bottom part of the pattern better than the top.

The obvious comparison is to the Rainbow Tower at the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu:

Unveiling Vancouver-based artist Elizabeth McIntosh’s “Finger Paint” installation at The Charleson at Pacific & Richards!
Massive in scale, it reaches the entire 43-storey height of the building and brings a lively pop of colour to Yaletown.

This forum is fun sometimes, we always ask for something different and bold, especially regarding the Yaletown skyline.

Finally something different and bold happens... but it is not exactly what people had in mind so the complaining starts...

The more I look at it the more I like it!

Just be careful with the complaints people, because we all know that the city won’t react in doing more (relaxing height limits / adding more lights / refining such art installations) it will react by doing less. Making art installations as strict as view cones. Reducing creativity.

I do like that rainbow example more, but our attempt is a step in the right direction.
