Not installing some lights on one tower causes people to give up on caring about all areas of their city?

How do you come up with this stuff?

People care about this city more than I've ever noticed, and it causes major problems. As much as I lament them, do you think NIMBYs rally against projects because they don't care? Do you think you see masive levels of civic engagement across the metro because people done care??

Maybe cutting a few lights off a project will send you into a spiral of despair and make you give up on Vancouver, but in all reality you probably should, because it will never be the city you want it to be. Thankfully.[/QUOTE]

My apologies, the above is Quote from LEFTCOASTER, below are my words.

So "Exactly" what you say above is what locals like me (all 53 years of my life) and passionate people like VIN are talking about, and argue with. It is YOUR sense of entitlement that advocate mediocrity rather than realizing bold imaginative ideas to STANDOUT WITH, and I stress WITH the natural assets we have. We should embrace and welcome a HIGH STANDARD of progress and thought provocative ideas (ViewconeLESS downtown core, superior facades, dynamic modern lighting features, sustainable water features in our beautiful, natural waterways such as False Creek, Coal Harbour, Lost Lagoon (not natural, I know) etc,) and all this, whilst keeping our natural beauty. Other cities do it and have now moved well on from Vancouver as most 'liveable cities', while maintaining a true 'wow' factor from visitors.
I have traveled well in my lifetime, 78 countries to be honest, and in each, I visit the TALLEST tower in their respective cities to see the layout of the land and view their progress. The views are breathtaking and stunning from a downtown perspective. The tallest tower here in Vancouver with a public view point is, and what a joke it is, Harbour Centre. Laughable, to say the least. Even Towers like Trump and Shangri La, if a public Viewing area were available, is also laughable from less than 200 meters.
This, my friends, is NOT world class and stands as testament how backwards thinking we, as a whole, really are, LEFT COASTER included.
Now I know some of you will say, "Go up to the viewpoints on Cypress, Grouse and Seymour if you want a pretty view" It is NOT the same perspective of really being downtown in a supposed vibrant, dynamic city vantage point that you would get from a 300+ meter tower, let alone 400, 500, 600+ towers you find in other MORE exciting cities than our VILLAGE.

And finally, here is food for thought........ "Welcome family and friends to my gorgeous city, notice the shiny, short towers with apartment lights off on the higher floors because nobody actually lives in them, notice also, if you will, the dark unlit streets and public spaces that we can't shed light on because it keeps the local NIMBYs awake at night, as they do sleep with their eyes open. Notice there are only but a few tower signages atop their buildings , again because people on the top floors, not, need to sleep. Enjoy the brown summer grass that we are forced to sit on because of our water restrictions that prevent us from running out of water by autumn, of which, I must say, would be replenished by our 9 months of rain, come fall. Talk and chat with our locals and not so locals living, dealing, using, begging and sleeping on the streets, of which we don't pressure wash anymore, due to water restrictions. Smell the fine aromas of our many restaurants and eateries that are closing due to high rents and leases that are now unaffordable due to property money laundering landowners, that don't actually live here like I do, or try to, and those smells mixed with the unmistakable scent of urine and fecal matter. Welcome all visitors to a backwards city, hopelessly thinking it IS among the best in the world. It is unaffordable, it is small, and it feels the world knows of it. It IS insignificant, and around the world, is becoming more and more insignificant every day. Welcome to Vancouver, a vibrant city with not a Tower of 200+ meters." LOL.

Those of you SPP Forumers that put contributors on this public forum like VIN, or probably me now, down for thinking OUTSIDE the 'NORMAL' box that you live in, should travel around the world and visit some REAL top-notched towns, villages and cities and see what the rest of the world is doing these days. Maybe then you will open your eyes. Sorry.

Sheesh if I felt like you I probably wouldn't live here and would move. Good thing I don't and can enjoy my surroundings. Never felt that my life was lacking because I couldn't look down on people from 600m up, nor that the absence of signage was keeping me from living a better life. Instead I spend my free time traveling when I can, soaking in the urban realms of the great cities of the world and attending meetings pushing for improvements to proposals at the ground level where the public interacts with them. Vancouver is definitely not perfect but it's certainly been made better by community involvement not worse.

You would think a well traveled person would be the first to realize that the height of buildings has almost no relation to the greatness of a city. Ever been to Amsterdam, Paris, or Barcelona? Even in New York some of the best neighbourhoods are mostly low rise.

There's a subset of SSPers that fetishize tall erections.

At least it's something to break up the grey-blue monotony of that part of False Creek. I find that area hideous, the worst part of the skyline.

I like the marble base at the entrance and how that interacts with the print in a mod, 60s kind of way. Part of me appreciates the boldness of the print, itself, but alternately feels that it's not entirely complementary to the neighbourhood.

I think the finished product is much better than the first glimpse with just the pink. I would love more whole tower blank space murals or pieces of public art. This is much more daring than I initially expected when I heard they were doing a large public art piece

Yes! Do something like this up on west pended place. Instead of the stupid strip lights that they never turn on
