The building probably will, but it's being added to the same legal parcel addressed as 401 W Georgia, which is why it's been processed as a planning application under that address.

Vision sure making the most of it on their way out the door.

A pair of public plazas in Vancouver were given new Indigenous names during a formal naming ceremony on Monday morning.

The new name for the Vancouver Art Gallery north plaza is šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square and the Queen Elizabeth Theatre Plaza will now be known as šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn. The ceremony took place at the gallery’s recently renovated north plaza.

šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn refers to a place one is invited to — and a place one is invited to for celebrating — and is connected to the past use of the Queen Elizabeth Theatre plaza as a gathering place for the Walk for Reconciliation.

šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ Square refers to a place where a cultural gathering occurs such as a wedding, funeral, naming, honouring or coming of age ceremony.

because naming things that people cant type into a search engine, into a text, into an email, or pronounce is a good idea. it is like the Stratchona Branch of the VPL. it is called and referred to by everyone as the Strathcona Branch not nə́c̓aʔmat. this does nothing for anyone since no one will actually acknowledge it, or call it by that. even nə́c̓aʔmat is at least less crazy then šxʷƛ̓exən Xwtl’a7shn or šxʷƛ̓ənəq Xwtl’e7énḵ.

does it really mean anything when everyone just ignores it?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. They're no better than Saddam's retreat, setting fire to everything they can.

We were joking in the Broadway Subway thread about naming some of the new stations in more locale appropriate names.
This is something I simply could not imagine being considered.

Why not use English phonics? You know, like Kelowna or Kamloops? If you really want you can have that funky writing below.

Like seriously, these names are already using western symbols / the English alphabet (to the best of my knowledge native languages in our area did not have written form) why not make them accessible to read???

The funny thing is going full bleeding heart and not using simple phonetics (again, which is done for nearly every other native named town and location in BC) actually works against these places having their new native names adopted by the general population. Call me crazy but I am still going to refer to it as Queen Elizabeth Plaza just for the ease of speaking.

That's 5050 - 5080 Joyce, its rezoning was approved in Dec 2016 and it's definitely not in Downtown

Vancouver Won’t be Seeing Red or Black as Davie Street Micro Homes Return with Space for Families
902 Davie St
It appears these days are a very busy time at the offices of Reliance Properties, as they are not only holding a pre-application event for a new 31 floor office tower, but are also moving forward with a 25 floor rental tower at 902 Davie Street.

When the design first came to light five years ago, there was much excitement over its black and red “bee hive” appearance. We felt it looked more like a series of heart-shaped boxes, though maybe that was the influence of listening to too much Nirvana when we were younger.

When we received this notification card over the weekend, we were excited as it has been over three years since there was last news on this proposal. Even better was a chance to ask representatives from Reliance for an update at their open house for 1166 West Pender, which was held yesterday. We will post a summery of that event in the coming days.

These people have truly lost touch with reality. I mean that in the most literal way possible.

I'm all for respecting the past, and the people and cultures that thrived here for millennia before us, but what the heck is City Hall thinking? As Metro mentioned, rename these institutions with phonetics that 99.9% of the population can read and understand. Doing it this way almost seems spiteful and childish.

They really want to look at silly as possible before they leave, huh?

Fears of Shade Slice Job Space Off 31 Floor Vancouver Office Tower
1166 West Pender St
Never have we been so wrong or had our expectations let so far down at an open house. As Darren recently mentioned, we had high hopes for this event, so you can only imagine our horror when we arrived and found simple cookies and coffee, instead of the tasty treats the Marriott Pinnacle Hotel normally provides. While we’ve seen people turn against a proposal for something as trivial as this, we were a bit more reasonable.

There was a touch of silliness in the room, which was likely due to staff suffering from severe boredom, as only 20 people had come through over a three hour period. This seemed to rub off on the public, as one person even joked they would support the demolition of the building, but only if Canadian Revenue Agency was still inside of the building when it happened.
