Yup, the only thing more big city than having to walk to another platform to transfer trains is transferring from a local to express train or vice versa.

Give me a break, a street tram running at 30 km/hr through all of downtown Edmonton is NOT big City. Nor is having to get off it in -35C to walk to doors and steps to an underground rail system. That is a suburban approach - like what is used to connect Orly Airport on the Metro or for that matter the RER. Street Trams cluttering up a downtown is old school and why Calgary is looking at the big dig. The Millwoods line should have been fast rail - and I think Sohi was duped into not fighting for it while he was a Councillor.

Does Toronto run the street car out to the suburbs? Or does Toronto use LRT and subways for longer distance travels, and metro rail for exurbs and regional ???

hmmmm

streetcars are great for urban built up areas, not so much as a longer distance solution....

Having biked all the way beside the "street car" from MW Town Center to elevated portion going into Wagner, I would hardly car it a street car.
I don't know how that portion isn't basically equivalent to the SLRT, unless it doesn't have priority signaling (there aren't even that many intersections).
Once is gets to Avonmore (north of Argyll), yes it turns into a street car style for about 1/4-1/3 of the total distance (North Avonmore to Strathearn).
In my view this line is a combination of a suburban and street-car, which I think could have been a better compromise had the Avonmore to Holyrood portion been better handled.

The Toronto Street Car system does go quite a ways from the Downtown Core and is still really only supplemented by a single Subway Line N-S and E-W.

Looking from the outside, I think Toronto is heavily underserviced for its population and density. The only thing I envy is their extensive commuter rail system.

Kingston to Edmonton, that's a long journey. I guess the rest of the country will see it before we do.

Be the only train anyone sees for a very long time.....1st train will be lip service only. Then the much anticipated delays will follow suit.......
