It is an indication that they don't have their act together with their partners.

AC with their star partners area able to make it work. The one problem is printing zone numbers, so it is not perfect.

The fact all the connecting passengers onto these Delta flight need an additional touch point with a customer service agent at the gate to reprint the boarding pass and redo the document checks adds labor costs, inconveniences the customer and causes the customer to second guess doing this again.

I would agree T3 being a "shithole" is a major problem. I liked that terminal in the good old days when Canadian was based there, that was in part because the old T1 and T2 was an even bigger pain. Today T3 needs a major rethink.

Basically WS has its two main hubs in terminals that are poorly designed for modern travel. AC is in a much better position from a terminal perspective in both YYC and YYZ.

T3 is going to be changed big time, just like T1. Approach roads moved underground, a new underground train connecting terminals with a new central hub. Depending on how far back towards the hub they move security and customs, which is more a function of how many trains and stations they build, it will massively change how much space is available.

That rendering looks great. I would expect baggage claim, security, immigration etc. to all in the transportation hub. It may be a bit of a walk or ridge to the gates but with T1 and T3 both having nearly doubled the number of gates it will be interesting.

Looks like Frontier is sending a Airbus 320Neo for its first flight tomorrow.

VivaAerobus sent one a few times this past winter I believe?

Also according to FR24 it’s back to just a A320 for today’s flight.

I hear from a very reliable source that British Airways are dropping Calgary late October for the winter schedule. Very ominous and hopefully they come back for summer 2019.

Hasn't that been a weak route for them for a while now?

plus Westjet adding wide bodies, means too much metal on this route for the current demand levels.

Would you guys prefer a prestigious airline like British Airways for this route or the home town boys?

100%

They are one of only a handful of true international players that have direct flights to Calgary.

Not sure if this would open the door for someone else, such as Emirates, who have been wanting to have travelers bypass the EU altogether.

Nothing concrete has been confirmed yet.

I don't doubt the poster's source but until this is public this is still just a rumour.

Recency bias has me unsure of how to rank how big a loss this is, but in combination with the IAH slashes this one hurts. Good people are losing jobs in October. This sucks.
So there is truth to this rumour? Seasonal loss or gone for good loss?

Losing one of the two year round European carriers is a huge loss however you look at it.

Come to think of it... I don't think BA flies any long-haul routes seasonally. Definitely not to North America. It doesn't seem to fit into their overall strategy.

My theory would therefore be... if it gets cut.... it's gone. Perhaps one day it will return.

Again, not doubting anyone, but concrete evidence required until I write this one off.

Curious to see if AC may take advantage and add seats to LHR, but I’m doubting it.

I called the BA reservation line and the lady told it was “temperaly suspended due to aircraft maintenance and planned to resume regular operations in March.” I know they have had troubles with their 787s lately, but I guess we shall see.

I don’t disagree with you that BA is a prestigious airline, but the way you worded this makes it seem like Westjet isn’t at all. Westjet has won its own share of awards and accolades and is filling a niche. I don’t have any inside information but what we’ve publicly seen of Westjet’s Dreamliner, I think Westjet will come into its own and be prestigious in its own way and right.

My definition of prestigious includes age and reputation. I'm not even sure AC is considered prestigious.

Frontier adds LAS VEGAS

OK, so it in no way makes up for the loss of BA. Not even close. But...

Frontier is adding YYC-LAS non-stops.

2x weekly, Wednesdays and Saturdays, starting August 15.

Quote:
LAS VEGAS (LAS) to/from CALGARY (YYC)

F9 108 Depart LAS: 10:30 a.m. Arrive YYC: 2:13 p.m.

F9 109 Depart YYC: 3:08 p.m. Arrive LAS: 4:55 p.m.

Aircraft: Airbus A320

Frequency: Wednesday, Saturday

Service Start: August, 15
