No thoughts on where the stores will go, but I do have thoughts on the "coincidence" that an apparent husband-and-wife duo each won their own license for Regina, out of likely dozens if not hundreds of applicants. While KPMG audited the lottery...I can't help but still question it considering the non-random appearance of the results, including that a small group of companies ended up randomly winning up to 1/3 of the total licenses around the province.

While legally the results cannot be questioned due to the audit, I think there still may have been some funny business. Lotteries of this nature should be conducted in a similar fashion to those done for large fundraising draws, such as for the Hospitals of Regina Foundation home lottery. Having a physical drum with physical ballots being drawn out on video eliminates the appearance of corruption, as well as the possibility of it.

Andersons winning 2 in Regina was a total shock, but I think it was just a big fluke. Probability analysis will tell you that you will almost always get a few anomalies.

Tweed (Canopy Growth) got 5. They are a $7B company that trades on the TSX and NYSE. Their wins were in smaller towns where I would guess there was little competition. They now get to retail online in SK though.

I think most of these will initially be small stores. It is not like a liquor store with hundreds of brands.

The pot shops are limited by the asinine buffer zone put in by the city. They will likely spread out while they try to find location but there will probably be some competition in the east end. There may also be some changes if they amend to allow in the Warehouse district.

The odds of getting a licence were actually worse in other places in Sask.

What is its short comings (despite the lack of a roof) in your opinion?

The lack of roof isn't a shortcoming. It's one of the best parts of the stadium.

The City shouldn't take on an extra $150,000,000 of debt so Rider fans don't get wet.

They took on an extra $350,000,000 so Rider fans asses were slightly more comfortable.

The building is hideous. It should have been at the rail yards. It's underutilized. The seats are cheap. The wayfinding is abysmal. The boxes are underwhelming. The food is a joke. The water is an even bigger joke. They put no effort into changing Ephinstone. The plaza is.... just sad.

Very subjective and debatable stuff. Definitely disagree on almost all except Elphinstone could have seen more improvements. Particularly the terrible state of the tracks, though that may be a rail line issue.

How about....don't? What are you about five years old? Your opinion on the matter is understood, no need to be more of a troll than usual.

What as absolutely asinine response. Your opinion on the matter is also understood, so when you stop writing a hagiography I'll stop criticizing.

Do you think you can do better with the given budget? Please.

On what land? There was no room.

Hmmm... I played soccer at the stadium last week. Underutilized, you say?

Compared to the benches of the old? They're La-Z-Boys.

I wish I had a picture of the amazing signage they put up after a couple games. If you can't find your way around after they put those up, I think it's less of a stadium problem and more of a you problem.

What do you want? A chocolate fountain and full kitchen in each box? This is Regina.

Odd, I don't see you complaining in the Regina Restaurants & Pubs thread about it.

Okay, I don't really have anything for this one. They should've been prepared for this, but the more important thing is that they've learned and adapted from it. Nobody's perfect.

Another fair point. However, it's still miles better than what we had previously. However, lets say we were to transplant this 1:1 straight into the railyard... You'd be praising this plaza. I think this issue is more where it is (and thus the use it gets) rather than the quality of it as it stands.

Regarding the suites/boxes at New Mosaic, they are excellent.

Type of f00l who criticizes just for the sake of criticizing. There seems to always be one.

The stadium cost $278,000,000, the city took on $60,000,000 of that total, not $350,000,000. The fact that you inflated the total by nearly 600% implies that the actual total isn't out of line.

Your arguments are also hypocritical. You complain about the price and yet also complain that the project was done cheaply. Would you rather they spent $600,000,000 on the stadium so that we could have finer finishes and more luxurious boxes? I think most people who actually use the facility including the boxes, loges, etc are pleased with the balance that was struck between a relatively affordable stadium with decent amenities.

This thing is built now and has been in operation for a year. It's time to move on.
I think it's still fair to complain that it was built at all. Sure, it's already done, but that doesn't mean it wasn't a possible mistake to begin with.

Evraz has a survey up regarding parking.

https://www.evrazplace.com/

They say a 500-spot above ground paarkade would cost about $15M. Somehow I don't see that funding being non-public dollars; a parkade at the General Hospital would be a better investment of public dollars.

Build shared paid parking over the stormwater detention area between Co-operator Centre and the Hospital. Free, "wasted" land. Also simple parkades should be cheaper to build. Someone needs to redesign these things.

My main concern with projects like the stadium is that there is no prioritization of capital projects, and no real strategic plan to develop a sustainable City with quality urban planning. Just a bunch of willy nilly stuff. As a result of building the stadium, the City doesn't have a lot of wiggle room to spend on more priority projects and infrastructure. Had there been a real strategic plan and prioritization of initiatives with sound urban planning, I highly doubt the first project would have been this stadium in its current location. For these reasons, I think it does need to continue to be discussed, much like the City Centre Plaza, which actually had a good plan, and a good design, and was then completely screwed up. The latest knee jerk investment is the new police office, because hey, there was this limited time steal of a deal opportunity for just $35 million. And Conexus really, really, really wanted to build a commercial building in the park, and they are a nice bunch of fellas, so hey, why not. None of these things reflect quality urban planning, but then the City recently went on record saying planning is not their job, so I guess it is all hunky dory, and we should enjoy the swanky new cafeteria at City Hall.
