I don't think anyone knows yet, there hasn't been any details of the addition to the station other than we know that there's a second platform going in. Given that this is the terminus for the Trillium Line for the known future (unlike Tunney's), I wonder how they plan to handle the side-platform issue.

I'm not. Rideau may get lots of ridership through the day. But it won't have anywhere close to the top in peak AM ridership. It's not close to most of the large office buildings. And post-opening, it's not keeping any of the STO traffic. So essentially, it's reduced to serving the market, the mall, NDHQ and City Hall.

I expect though that Rideau to have fairly high total ridership. It'll just be spread out through the day.

PM peak may be a tad higher. But I doubt you'll see Rideau displace Baseline above it. Rideau is just going to have a very different usage pattern than the rest of the line. Probably more consistent ridership throughout the day and less of large jump at peak. It may well have a shifted peak, with more ridership coming in closer to 9-930 when the mall actually opens.

Morning stops aren't likely to be common. You're far more likely to get market and Farm Boy visits on the way home than on the way to work.

Under the tracks would be my guess.
I figured the MUP would go under the tracks when Trillium is extended to Gatineau. It's the MUP going under Bayview Station that I'm questioning, with the addition of a track and side platform.

Elgin might be closer to Rideau, but the walk to a station is still more pleasant to Parliament.

I agree. You can walk a two block straight line from O'Connor and Queen, or up from the deep depths of Rideau and then the round and circuituos route from Rideau either via Wellington or through the mall and Confederation park. For the more southern parts of Elgin, uOttawa and the corkstown bridge is a nice walk

I think what we’ll see in the future would be the widening/replacement of the Albert-Scott street bridge to include segregated bike tracks, since both Segments are supposed to be eventually “complete-streeted”. If a West Wellington ped/bike bridge were also built it would make up for the tracks being an obstacle

There's a pedestrian underpass just east of the platforms.

In our case, I don't think the OADA requires them yet, but might as well get ahead of an expensive lawsuit since I'm sure while the others don't have them yet, it'll quickly become mandatory. There was already the activist in Toronto trying to make centre platforms illegal (https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2014/08...ible_says_blind_human_rights_lawyer.html)
Remember that OC Transpo does not fall under the purview of the AODA, though they follow it in spirit.

The overpass/tunnel was a late addition because the station entrance and courtyard will block where the path used to rub down between the Transitway and roadway.

True, but that didn't stop the lawsuit that got automated bus announcements.

I'm fine with the intercar barriers and they are an inexpensive thing, I do wonder though if redundant elevators are truly necessary. It's a pain when.elevators are out of service, but there is a workaround of going one station past and switching back like in the existing transitway stations.

That sounds great on paper, but what you are suggesting is that someone:
  1. get off the train and discover that the elevator is out of order,
  2. get on the next train to the next station,
  3. go up to the concourse level (assuming it has one),
  4. go down to the other platform,
  5. get on the next train back to the first station,
  6. get on the elevator to where they wanted to go in the first place

And that is assuming that none of the other 3 elevators are out of order, in which case they have to find yet another route.

It might be fine in a minor station that barely anyone will be using in the first place, but for most stations, redundant elevators aren't an issue with me.

Good Day.

Redundant elevators are an absolute necessity, and always have been and should have been.

That "workaround" was always at the least a major flaw, and IMHO a major piece of $#!^
And, it may have been 'sufficient' for those who were on the T-Way looking to get off,
but an even yet more major 'inconvenience' for those looking to get onto the T-Way.
It should never have been allowed. It reflected one of the major flaws in the T-Way service, and is a mentality still reflected in the approach to service, convenience, and safety upcoming for the O-Train - that is, get away with the least possible.
Even the major stations have really only the barest possible redundancies and max-out capacity overage handing capabilities.
This one certainly hopes that as more CBD buildings link up to the stations, they will build in more capacity.

Hope!

And yet here we are discussing a situation where they are not trying to get away with the least possible. But I agree with you, there should have been at least a third escalator for the downtown stations (that could just be turned off during the lowest demand periods).

Or even a second for Lyon and Parliament stations so that you can use it to go down or up.

Time for another round of everyone's favorite game: Guess the station floorplan!

I passed by uOttawa today and the hoarding around the entrance is gone, giving a clear view of the concourse. I noticed the concourse isn't very large, making me wonder where the retail space is supposed to be. I also wonder where the stairs at the South ends of the platforms go, they don't seem to link up with the concourse, and I'm guessing they are some sort of emergency exit, but I don't see where it would come out.

I'm glad the City opted to build a minimum of two elevators per platform. I agree, this is an absolute necessity. If you're in crutches, or in a wheelchair, or use a walker, you don't want to use the workaround hack.

In defence of the Transitway though, it's pretty amazing that they did include an elevator at each station, failures aside. Consider this; when Montreal built the Metro's Blue Line around the same time as Ottawa's Transitway, they din't include any elevators whatsoever. And Vancouver's Skytrain, also built in the 80s, didn't have an elevator at Granville (space issues apparently). Vancouver fixed the one flaw in the mid-2000s, but Montreal is still wwwwaaaaaayyyyyy behind.

Although maybe I'm expecting to much. I keep thinking something like this at Vancouver's Granville station when I think of retail:

And so far the renderings from OC Transpo seem to be the previously mentioned stall in an underground car park, and this rendering of the "Harry Potter Cafe" under the stairs at hurdman

Went through the Sun Life Atrium today, and they've opened up the temporary wall in front of the Parliament station entrance. You can peek though now, but they had the metal rollup doors (which I guess they use to close off the Atrium outside of business hours) partially down, so couldn't see much. But it does feel like things are getting closer.

How exciting! Nadia Myre's public art installation is taking place at #OttLRT's Pimisi Station and will add a culturally important element to the station. Learn more about Nadia Myre's pieces, their significance and background: https://t.co/Pz7A8ZuN90
