I've never seen such bollards anywhere else.

Here's Parliament Station schematic;

They are used in California, and closer to us in Buffalo NY. One thing I didn't know, and is probably true of the system that we installed, is that they have to bend so that a person who ends up on the wrong side of them isn't trapped.

If those west escalators and stairs had run the opposite direction we could have gotten a Bank street entrance

Lyon will pick up a lot of STO transfers as well as some of the OC Transpo routes coming from the west end. Parliament is the closest station fro a pretty small area (Elgin is closer to Rideau) whereas Lyon is the closest station for the whole west side of centretown.

Checked out Buffalo. It fits well with their crappy looking system.

I feel like if they bend, it makes it even more of a risk factor. Someone thinks they are solid, leans on them and falls in the hole.

Calgary and Edmonton don't have these. I don't think TO's Eglinton will either. Why do we have to have them?

The SunLife entrance schematic and full station one are reversed. The west end of the station is right below the SunLife entrance.

Bus tranfers well taken. As for Elgin being closer to Rideau; the walk to Parliament is easier. For Rideau, one would have to cross super-wide Elgin, go across the canal, in front of Union, go down through the sketchy underpass and back up before crossing Colonel By. One would then go way underground in the deepest station. I think anyone between Elgin and Bank (maybe even mid-block between Bank and Kent) will opt for Parliament, Bank and Bronson will use Lyon.

It's an accessibility feature. They are already becoming mandatory in the US:https://www.transit.dot.gov/regulations-...ers/lrt-vehicle-car-barrier-requirements

In our case, I don't think the OADA requires them yet, but might as well get ahead of an expensive lawsuit since I'm sure while the others don't have them yet, it'll quickly become mandatory. There was already the activist in Toronto trying to make centre platforms illegal (https://www.thestar.com/news/gta/2014/08...ible_says_blind_human_rights_lawyer.html)

AFAIK, the concourse level will be directly below Queen St, with the escalators going diagonally up to the Sunlife and Heritage buildings. As a result, unless they installed something more akin to a funicular, getting the elevators into one of the buildings would have required enlarging the concourse to have it extend under the building.

As was done at Lyon and Rideau.

Those bollards are disgusting. Seems like RTG people keep forgetting this a low floor system.

The schematic makes the design a bit puzzling. So, you go down from the Atrium/Queen entrance, ending up at a concourse that does nothing but take you to escalators/stairs which dumps you at the far end of the main station hall above the platforms. What's the point of that long run in the upper concourse, they could have started the stairs sooner putting you at the midpoint in the station hall. I guess it depends where the fare gates are, are they at the concourse level or the main station hall?

(I couldn't find a PDF of the presentation, so linked to the time in the video where they talk about this)

Interestingly, if you add the Baseline, Moodie and Tunney's Pasture numbers together, it comes to over 14,000 which is well ahead Lyon, so it is quite likely that initially Tunnies Pasture will be the busiest station (until stage 2 west is open).
I am kind of shocked that Rideau is not higher up on the list. Any obvious reason that I am missing?

It's reversed. From SunLife, you start above the western end of the station and that slopped corridor brings you to stairs (and I assume escalators) down to the station's midpoint.

On the SunLife entrance schematic, you can see the entrance on the right, away from us while the full station schematic, the entrance is on the left, towards us. In other words, looking from the south side of Queen vs looking from the north side of Queen.

I can see why Lyon and Parliament would have a higher usage, being that they serve the CBD. The majority of students at uOttawa walk from nearby housing or take transit. Baseline will get most of the Barrhaven traffic. I'm a little surprised Hurdman is so high, even with the majority of the SE Transitway transferring there.

The thing with Rideau is that traffic volumes will likely be more consistent throughout the day, serving retail, restaurants and tourist areas, while Lyon and Parliament will see most of its traffic at peak periods.

Most of the inter-provincial transfers are moving to Lyon. Not much daily ridership (people using the station 10x per week).

I suspect they may be underestimating people getting off to pop in for something, but I think that might depend on how efficient the escalators are.

This list is only AM peak. I'm guessing Rideau will be busier in PM as people make their way to Market/Rideau Centre.

Rideau will also be busier on weekends than Parliament/Lyon, presumably, for this reason.

This, especially when you consider the mall doesn't even open until 9:30 AM on weekdays, so little to no of the traffic included will be going to the mall.

Rideau in the AM peak will mostly be used by DND workers, anyone who might want to grab something at the Farm Boy food counter on the way to work and uOttawa students who have classes on the north side of campus.

You mean E-W path after POW extension?
Under the tracks would be my guess.
