Yes, here: https://www.google.ca/maps/@49.8838033,-...cTzIBG8HFOcrqsnvQsWoQ!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

It's crazy how many cars were parking there for a while – don't even know where they were coming from, or parked before lol.

Why is there a 6 storey maximum there? It's right by an RT station and there's an 18 storey tower about to go up a street over, not to mention numerous tall buildings along the river. It'd be fantastic to see a couple tall TOD-minded buildings go up here.

From memory Marks and Spencer was both on Portage Ave as you describe and in the main Portage Place mall. It was the same location. I think it started on Portage, moved to the mall then moved back to Portage and finally closed. If my memory is correct it was on the second floor, north side over the food court.

Lots of good stuff here on the new AT bridge over Assiniboine River. I [personally don't mind the basic girder option as opposed to the other two. Cable stay being my second.

People that come in from the south part of the city and park there then either walk or take the bus downtown. Taking the bus each way is probably a little less than the daily cost of an Impark lot.

I sort of recall M&S being in Portage Place proper but I know that location that they were in on the south side of Portage was a former 3 level (Basement, Main and 2nd floor) Zellers location (346 Portage) from the mid 1930's to the early 1970's.

I remember going in there with my mother shopping in the 1960's after shopping at Eaton's

I like the simplicity, low cost and good sight lines of the girder bridge, but I also like the benches and unique design of the cable stayed bridge. It's a toss up between those for me. I'm not at all interested in the suspension bridge.

Cable is my favorite but I would accept the girder design if it is significantly cheaper. Is this bridge located just east of the Mid town bridge?

It's almost centre between Osborne and Midtown bridges.

Oh, I thought it would be great to connect from the park on the east side of the Mid town (Mayfair Park east) to Bonnycastle park. That way you could connect to the Garry/Fort bike paths to Donald/Pembina.

I guess this will connect Fort Rouge Park to the Leg?

It'll connect Fort Rouge Park to McFayden Park to the North. That's the little park with the tennis courts which may get improvements in the process.

I believe this is where it will connect on Assiniboine:

I didn't even think about how far that bike path goes down Assiniboine. I just kind of wished it connected to Donald and river somehow. Oh well, I don't see this bridge being built for some time if at all depending on the election coming up.

I really think the bike lane should be 2-way on Stradbrook, at least from Donald to Scott (then connect Strad to River via Scott). There's tons of room for it. Otherwise, you need to force cyclists going north on the RT AT path to go the long way around via Harkness to get to River like vehicles do, and they'd have to us the sidewalk on Harkness. Makes no sense when Stradbrook has so much extra width near Donald.

Conversely, they could just widen the east sidewalk on Donald from Stradbrook to River to continue the AT path there. Could narrow the median to one of the thick taller ones, as there's no left turns on Donald anyway.

^ one way streets are a terrible idea in general, it's especially evident with things like bike lanes

Also with the city’s horrible (non-existent) non-vehicular signage.

I don't remember M&S ever moving back to Portage... I recall it was in Portage Place in the location you recall up until about 1998 or so? At which point the location was converted into Gisele's City Spa which remained for the next decade or so.

It was like a smaller version of the British stores with a selection of clothing, food, general merchandise, etc.

Pretty doom and gloom in here on the ped bridge. Everyone complains how the City doesn't do anything. This bridge is a priority for the City and will be built.

The maps show what upgrades will be done to cycling infrastructure in the Osborne area. Essentially this is supposed to connection with the bike lanes on Pembina and to the pathway along the southwest Transitway.

With other upgrades going on, you can basically get from south Winnipeg all the way through to the north Perimeter on dedicated bike lanes or paths.

^ I used to live at 15 Kennedy and I would have loved to have access to a pedestrian bridge around there. It's a good idea and I think it will help connect Osborne Village and Broadway-Assiniboine.
