Yeah, I think Pasqua and Albert are too close to Argyle to modify that intersection much. There are red flags and paint markings near the Ring Road on-ramp so I assume it's just an intersection improvement of some sort. Probably traffic lights to grind traffic to a halt.

Picture Updates of the College Avenue Campus Restoration/Expansion...

I really hope they redo the parallel paths leading up to Darke Hall.

Sasktel Building on 11th

View from Cornwall Street. (Sasktel Building crane in the distance. New Parking lot with lots of new trees next to Legion building. Looks really nice on this side of the street.

View facing east side of Cornwall Street. These buildings are just aching for some restoration and main floor retail/restaurant/pub right off the plaza!!! Perfect for patio additions too!

Scarth Street needs those tree seating planters either painted and or/redone. Also some of the trees closer to the Hill Centre Towers need to be removed and new ones planted. I will highlight my distaste for the ugly and forgotten state of the brick work of Scarth Street compared to the new plaza. They need to either fix all the brick or continue the modern grey look and brick product that was used in the plaza. Also, I really do feel Scarth needs a fountain or some water feature. They removed the center raised brick platform. Not sure why.

Updates to Southland Cineplex finally. After years of their signage deteriorating, they are getting their act together...plus new carpet.

The paving bricks on the Hill Mall are really deteriorating. They have been doing spot repairs over the last few years but infrequently. I am not sure why the City spent several weeks removing the central oval podium and replacing it with flat bricks. The benches were all painted in the last week or so.

In other Hill Mall news, Jugo Juice is open on the main level of Tower I. Also I have heard that Evolution Fitness is expanding to an adjacent building, which surprises me.

Jugo Juice is in process to get outside signage. Currently you don’t even know it’s there. Also hope they will install a permanent outdoor patio like Famoso did.

I am just surprised about Evolution, not the industry in general.

Likely traffic lights yup. Argyle extension has more or less made that a reality not to mention the soon to be Capital Crossing and other new retail up there.

I just with the city would build an acceleration lane at Arcola between Ring Road and university park drive. Stop sign *Doh*

This seems unlikely, unless you mean they are expanding to the floor below them. I don't know why they would expand to a different landlord when their existing has vacancy.

New carpet? Wow - maybe this will prod Chapters to install new carpet... I think 20+ years is a good run. There have been spots in their carpet that have been worn through to the subfloor for at least 10 years, if not 15.

Not unlike the Cineplex sign... most companies are protective of their brand to a compulsive degree - the fact Cineplex knew about those signs & did nothing for 5 or more years was a signal to me that they were planning to close the theatre, and hopefully open a new one (in that Grasslands building that was shaped on the site plan exactly like numerous Cineplex locations, but that ultimately ended up being Winners/Homesense/Little Caesars/ et el in buildings that look nothing like the box on the site plan).

It's interesting that it's in the East and not at the GTH... Though I guess it's CP with their line out at the GTH and not CN?

I rarely go to Chapters, but my wife took me there on the weekend. All I noticed was they are now a "lifestyle/home decor" store... and their carpet was an absolute disgrace. Just gross.

Also took a wander down Scarth St Mall on Monday afternoon. In addition to the usual dreary ambiance, I particularly noted the tree planters full of cigarette butts.

Yes, the business model there has changed from a book store to a "girlfriends meet up for a coffee and look at frilly nicknacks" store. Especially since their attempt at being an Apple Store failed and the tech section is now just board games and headphones.

... and there are butt trays in the planters! I pointed that out to someone I saw tossing theirs I was told to F off.

The ambiance will be much better once the patios are set up, flowers are planted and the trees fully leaf out.

oh no! Look at the damage this accident has done to the median in front of City Hall...

no, wait... I think the van actually knocked some bricks back into place. Matter of fact, leave the van there... we'll call it public art. Definitely an improvement over the pre-van boulevard.

I knew parking was tough to come by downtown...

I think they had a lot going against them. The location is terrible (and is the reason Robins closed in the first place). It’s a pain to get to just to visit the cafe and if you’re just looking to pick up a coffee to go it’s not worth the hassle and it’s so out of the way it would probably never cross your mind anyway. They also had a limited menu, which is fine, but I was there at 1 pm one day and If you wanted a treat to go with your coffee, they had almost nothing left. The space also wasn’t very comfortable, I think that was the remnants of Robins. You could tell they were trying, especially in the cat room, but they would’ve needed more extensive renovations to do that. I found it difficult to interact with the cats and enjoy your coffee at the same time. They had high tables and uncomfortable seating. Having said that, this was all early on, so it’s possible they’ve improved some of these things. It’s too bad they couldn’t make it work. There are a lot of cats that need homes and you (almost) never want to see a small business fail. I do think the location was their biggest downfall. I don’t think they failed because it’s a cat cafe or a novelty.

I have no idea if they’re doing better financially, but I think Excalipurr has a few things going for it that Vegaboo didn't. Way better location-fairly central, on a busy street with decent walkable parking, pedestrian traffic, a lot of people living and working within walking distance. If you’re just driving by it’s easy to stop in and grab a coffee. They also do little pop up shops that bring in extra traffic. Their cafe is a comfortable space on its own if you just want a coffee or something to eat. Their cat room set up also makes it easier to interact with the animals so it doesn’t just feel like you’re sitting in a coffee shop with cats hanging around. You can spend a little more time with them (this is also helped by the fact that they have more cats so there’s more likely to be a kitty that is social or wants to snuggle or play).
