"Brentwood 'Rec Room' entertainment centre goes ahead"

Shape Properties’ zoning request to build The Rec Room, a Cineplex Entertainment concept at 4501 Lougheed Hwy., passed third reading at a recent council meeting. The venue would be located within the entertainment area of Brentwood Town Centre, with food and drink areas and arcade games including a virtual reality simulator, ping pong, billiards and bowling.

The Rec Room will be open between 11 a.m. and 2 a.m., and liquor service would be from 9 a.m. to 2 a.m., seven days a week.

Hope the entertainment Rec room does not become too rowdy with so many types of entertainment and alcohol served. Hope Shape lives up to its claim to provide security.... all it take is one bad incident.

The photo shows the plaza end, which is much wider. It tapers towards the station end. The support (which is bulkier than it looks due to the hour-glass shape) is off-centre, creating a narrow gap on one side. If you were looking toward the station, one side would remain just as wide as in the photo: but the other would narrow to less than half that width. You can see it in the plan here.

Yeah I'm kinda on the fence on this feature of the development too.. hopefully it woudn't attract the wrong/undesirable crowd.

The Rec Rooms are a fun concept. An attraction for sure.

As far as rowdy, I hope it does get rowdy, and I live in Brentwood.

The Lower Mainland experience is way too sterile.

I've been to Rec Room in Calgary a few times.

When there's a big game on or UFC it's super busy, and a fun crowd.

I think it would be similar to the Rev's crowd, and I could see them taking a lot of their business, especially if they have a decent amount of bowling lanes.

Happy clean fun is OK. Some rowdiness unavoidable. After all it is a gathering place for everybody to enjoy a game together, having a beer or two. As long as no drunks getting into stupid fights and people gets hurt.

These buildings make solo look like pieces of crap. I wish city planning departments will look at the difference between the two projects and finally realize that less see through windows are a hell of a lot more attractive and start to encourage developers to incorporate it more often.

I hope they improve the streetscape on Lougheed in future developments. I wouldn't enjoy walking on that sidewalk.

All these cineplex, Rec room development, shops restaurants....... will all boost the quality of living in the Brentwood area. But at the back of all those people who invested in the 3 towers may loom a doubt . What if my home is inundated with too much buzz, people, noise...? This may become a trade off for being too close to the skytrain. Whereas neighboring developments continue to benefit from the Brentwood mega project.... marketing themselves as at arm's length from world class entertainment. Shape's own Amazing Brentwood may become less amazing ??!!
I am sure Shape is well aware of this, after all they still have 7+ towers to sell. I would think monitoring , surveying, policing , providing security to public areas should be their prime priority. Like I always say: all it take is one bad incident to create bad press. Shape knows better to protect its own investment.

I get what you're saying but that's essentially the same as saying there's any validity to people moving next to the airport and complaining about plane noise. What was there first?

You know what you're getting when you buy in a TOD. Or at least you should.

I think not. I bought a unit and there was exactly nothing in any documentation from shape suggesting what specific type of shops, stores, etc would be here. I dont mind having an entertainment center nearby but I sure as hell dont want to listen to people partying every night either. this is not like moving next to an airport - sure, if an airport existed first and then we moved next to it, that's one thing. but there was nothing specific planned for the mall 3-4 yrs ago and nothing suggesting there would be a late night entertainment center.

Its been planned as food/restaurant anchored retail experience since day one. Like most new retail concepts.

How would you not expect this?

You're being silly - shouldn't have to be told everything, this would have been a reasonable assumption to make based on buying next to a new luxury mall.
