The Park is named Air Canada Window Park, presumably because it's surrounded by windows. Lol. It really needs an update, and much better lighting at night – even though it "closes" at 10 pm.

On a side note, I often walk around the back side at night, and the way they've designed and landscaped the northern edge of the Air Canada Building is actually quite nice. If the surface lot to the north were ever developed, it would make a fantastic little nice, hidden alley to have lunches in, etc. Fits in with the city's desire to make more of back alleys.

It was named that because Air Canada wasn’t going to locate in the nightmarish North of Portage area (as Lloyd Axworthy wanted them to, to help realize his urban renewal dreams) without having visibility (a “window”) from Portage. So the city tore down a couple of old buildings and created the Window Park.

I was in Calgary a couple years ago and stayed downtown. It was great there, bright with people out and about. They had a street, I can't remember it for the live of me that was closed to traffic except maybe buses. It was primarily a street designated for lounges, restaurants and night life. I think that would be a great idea for Winnipeg and am wondering what the people on here think about which street in downtown Winnipeg could be shut down to traffic without a major impact. I am thinking the only ones I can see are in the exchange, maybe Albert or Aurthur.

Yeah, Sparks Street is the definition of deadly dull. Once the bureaucrats head home at 5 pm, it becomes a ghosttown. Except when they hold the odd event, such as Ribfest.
