I was about to ask if this was Sydney....it is. I only knew because I was bored on SSP and noticed they have that fugly tower that's like a cheap skeleton for a communications tower.

Australian cities have extremely impressive skylines. They all have a good mix of office vs condo towers and multiple iconic and prominent buildings right in the middle, they could not be better balanced. Hell I prefer the skylines of Brisbane, Perth, Sydney and Melbourne to anything in Canada save Calgary (which I admit is the only skyline I really find impressive in terms of balance and style).

That is my town. I love Montreal, partially because of the grit. Also because of the women and the skyline isn't bad either

With the exception of Sydney I find a lot of them look too much like no-name American city skylines (say, Charlotte NC).

Of course, once on the streets I find the Australian cities tend to have more finely grained urbanity than most American cities, but that's another story.

(I don't find Canadian skylines to be that great either, BTW. Again... with some exceptions.)

I am talking "skyline style" only though. I have never experienced Australian cities at street level. I really like a skyline with a few iconic highrises (over 200 m ideally) with an architecture and presence that stand out as well as a good balance between those tallest buildings, which should ideally be spread out a la Chicago. Having your three of four tallest buildings very close to each other does not have the same impact. Toronto achieves that from some angles but a few more very tall and iconic buildings a few blocks away from the CBD and CN tower would definitely help.

I find Australian skylines architecturally distinct from American ones. I don't think I'd confuse one with the other.

I specifically said "no-name" skylines, of which the U.S. has many.

I wasn't talking about iconic ones like NYC, Boston or SF, or even some of the older ones like Cleveland and Detroit.

Brisbane and Miami don't look that different to me, for example.
