Glow in the dark paint.

But, all the new BellMTS Place signage turned out awful so I don’t have much faith lol. Having white lit signs over the glass atriums makes it almost impossible to even read at night, and the blue ones up top look so bad in daylight cuz they’re semi-transparent.

^ I was actually kind of impressed with the new signage. Blue signs are very hard to see at night, the white stands out much better. By contrast, the blue stands out in daylight.

It's cool that they're different colours day and night – but if you look at the ones on the south end mounted over the glass, impossible to see as the atriums are bright. And the blue ones on the north side are see through so they look cheap and weird. Seems they used a different design than the new ones on BellMTS Tower which are actually solid blue during the day.

I don't know how accurate this is, but was told it by a confirmed tenant of TNS – but either True North or one of the main tenants (unclear) is apparently going to have the liquor licence for the whole building and "re-sell" it to other tenants based on square footage. They will also provide all cleaning and maintenance services to all the retail tenants, and re-sell those services to them as well.

We'll see if that ends up happening and how it works out. I hate it. For reference, Bell MTS Place, Moxies, and Tavern United are all on the same liquor licence, held by True North (only possible because it's technically one building). While this gives TN lots of power – it also creates issues where if one of the businesses gets in trouble with the LGA for breaking liquor rules, and hits them with a shut-down – it applies to ALL the businesses. It has happened before – I believe it was Moxies that got shut down, which forced Tavern to also not sell booze for a day (I think it was in the summer, no event at the arena).

I worked for a hotel that held multiple licenses and when we got caught for over-capacity and were shut down for two days, it only applied to the nightclub (where the offense occurred).

Most servers arent properly trained in spotting fake ID's anyway. In all the times I've had Inspectors give us presentations, they never discuss some of the "coding" on a Driver's License most people (especially 16/17 year olds lol) don't know about.

I used to have a collection of fake DL's and other ID's we'd take off people. Most of them were pretty bad.

During one presentation the inspector was really hammering us on not serving more than 1 (or 1.5 really) drinks at a time. I asked why I cant order two beers at the bar but I can order two giant beers at the Stadium or arena. The answer was lack of waiter/waitress service at those places. In other words, different rules depending on who you are.

I remember a Canad bar got nailed for serving blender-made shooters when someone decided you can't do that because you can't be sure of which shooter has what alcohol content (and that was odd because Canad always knows when the LC is visiting...unlike everyone else).

We once had the inspectors sit on the parking lot til 3:30PM waiting by the back door for the barback to take out the garbage so they could sneak in and catch 5 staff having a beer after a long night. Safety first right?

In my 15 years of bar/hotel work, I think we had one inspector that wasn't a jerk. Funny enough, he's the one that shut us down but because he was cool and fair we actually werent angry (plus, he recommended two days when we were normally closed anyway).

I went to Canad Inns Stadium the last year it was open. Took a friend who was...23 I think. She looked early 20's. Had she ordered drinks, I'd have not minded her being ID'ed. I went to buy a beer and she stood off to the side, away from the line. A security person asked her for ID. She declined saying she was not drinking and the security insisted she had to show ID. I walked over and said she doesnt have to be 18 to be in this building. Security says "well you might buy her a beer". I said, firstly she's 23 and secondly, if I give her a beer, feel free to ask to see her ID. But right now, you're demanding ID for no reason." Just seemed like a bored security guard looking for something to do (it was a slow game).

Good to hear. It was always a battle of trickery with the LC it seems. And most inspectors just wanted you to kiss their 🞵🞵🞵. They liked to barge in past the line and past the chain without saying a word and when security would rightly stop them, they'd shove their badge in their face like security should have know who they were.

Yeah. Like there's technically rules still where you can't alter the contents of a liquor bottle (ie: infusing liquor, pre-mixing liquor) etc. which is ridiculous. Meaning when you go to cocktail bars here and see lots of drinks with infused or flavoured liquors, it's against the law. I work at a bar where we add 1 spice to our rum for 24 hours than strain it. Against LC rules – but they've fully said that's the last thing anyone cares about anymore, really just focusing on safe consumption now, thank god.

That’s the whole reason for this development — to make it easier to partner the arena in convention activities. The buildings are just there to keep the skywalk from falling over.
