They should paint something on the entire roof of the arena. At least a Jets logo/name of building.

I suppose there isnt often a reason to see it but there is now.

^ I was kind of surprised that TNSE never painted "MTS Centre" on the roof... it's becoming a common practice now.

Lots of arenas have the naming rights' sponsor logo on top. Bell might not want to commit to BellMTS though lol.

Side note I hate that our arena doesn't have an actual logo/design element anymore beyond the text like the MTS Centre had the roof's waves on top. Ugh.

^ I know we're getting off topic here but to my eyes it always looked like there were brackets installed on the east side of the arena... it sort of looked like it was meant for a sign, possibly a jumbotron. Obviously one never went in but with Donald turning into such a hotspot I wonder if TNSE will consider installing one now?

I'm referring to the light-coloured square behind the red Sun newspaper box on the street below... if you walk by you can see the brackets mounted on the wall:

Speaking of that side, I wonder if the nifty banners will ever make a comeback? They were damaged by the wind over the first few years and were never replaced.

I was thinking the same thing over the last few years. Now with the higher visibility of the TV cameras, it would be nice to spruce up that side of BellMTS Place with Stanley Cup banners. I'm going to e-mail Kevin Donnelly about that.

To be fair, no one "important" aside from Alt guests was really ever looking at it til 2 weeks ago lol.

I've noticed those brackets before and thought the same thing, but it'd be a weird place for one. Really the only people you could target from that side of the building are transit riders on WB Graham, but it's too far north, needs to be on the glass like the other one. Which, speaking of, True North HATES the Hargrave jumbotron and wants to remove it, but it was actually built into the building (no glass behind it). The costs to remove it and replace or glass it in are so high they said it's the last thing on their list – essentially waiting til it dies haha.

I also have been hoping the banners were going to be replaced soon. They matched the old "northern lights" theme in the atrium and concourses, which has all been removed. It's so obvious with the poles and lights that there should be some there, so hopefully it happens this offseason. I'd have to imagine they have a plan for redoing a lot of the exterior lighting now that the indoor upgrades are mostly complete.

Really wouldn't expect to see (m)any upgrades on Donald – it's not becoming a "hotspot" (The Met is the only business on that block), it's just more of the best option for a party that will only happen a few times this year and maybe next, before switching to more likely Hargrave/Carlton.

^ Why does TNSE hate the Hargrave jumbotron? I mean, other than being somewhat outdated technologically (it isn't HD), it adds some life to the building. Usually arenas have bright and lively marquees but that one screen is really all the MTS Centre has.

I expected some sort of marquee to eventually materialize on the cylinder at Portage and Donald, but obviously that hasn't happened.

I actually like the blank roof. The whole logo/arena name painted on the roof thing looks super tacky when I see it in other places. Just because we can slap sponsorship branding on a surface doesn't always mean we have to.

^ Ha, I'm with you. I actually prefer it blank myself... I'm just surprised they didn't strike a deal with the sponsor to do it. Although I suppose it's really just a matter of time.

Doesn't have to be a corporate logo...one of the Jets logos would look cool up there!

Kevin Donnelly replied to my email (I also mentioned the roof logo and cleaning the roof). He said he would forward my suggestions to the right people.

Construction elevator on Hargrave has come down over the weekend and on Monday the glass panels were starting to go in to replace the openings.

That's why. It's extremely low resolution. Also, all the other video screens throughout the whole building run from once central place, this one is kinda just on it's own and apparently they have lots of issues with it. It's not industry standard – most shows provide promo materials upfront based on minimum resolutions and GFX standards, but the screen is so old much of it is illegible. It's also just really small, and being so high off the ground it isn't overly effective.

The amount of money Bell is spending on transitioning MTS to BellMTS, they can afford to paint the roof of the arena.

They should put in an LED ribbon across the front (Portage Av) or hell, all the way around the building!

And paint the roof to look like a runway.
