CBS46 just reported (on their live morning broadcast) that Atlanta has officially been removed from the Amazon HQ2 shortlist due to the Religious Liberty Bill. Can anyone confirm this.

EDIT: Never mind. They were referencing the same WaPo article being discussed here.

We don't have a Religious Liberty Bill...

@williamligon You are ruining this state, stay out of Atlanta's business. Get a huge dildo and ram it up your ass, you might like it...

Yes, I know it wasn't ultimately passed, but that's what the WaPo article was about that CBS46 was referencing.

I know you do but very bad media coverage about something that has not even happened, but we have the illustrious closet case Senator William Ligon (Brunswick), for this...

I will not negate your feelings. You have every right to feel that way. I disagree. None of that, however, disproves my statement regarding the merits of the DC metro. I left out that it is an extremely educated area as well. That in itself probably fuels the very high incomes the region enjoys.

If the choice is Atlanta or Northern Virginia, I will be pleased with either option.

The reason there are lots of educated people in DC metro is they are more than happy to use their education and intelligence to feed from the federal trough. The unrestrained, immoral deficit spending of Uncle Sugar is robbing us, the middle class taxpayers of our wealth and future. There are insidious unintended consequences for our survival as a viable nation resulting from the profligacy and inequity. The DC government class is the problem.
Not just my feelings...the great majority in this country feel like me. Whether Democrat or Republican or Libertarian, we hate those leeches for different reasons - but most of us do really hate them. They should feel as part of a Bourbon dynasty, only this time there will not be a Restoration.

The biggest challenge I see keeping the DC Metro from getting HQ2 is the fact DC is made up of 2 States and the District of Columbia. Amazon has no intention of having offices in MD, VA and DC, so only one area will get the prize. It's hard to ask DC and MD citizens to pay higher taxes to fund regional transportation projects if VA is where Amazon lands. Lack of Regionalism is what cost DC the Olympics as well. I am curious to hear your thoughts on this.

I agree with you on a lot of things Libertarian, but your love of small government needs to be researched much deeper and I think you will find a different answer. You know what countries with small governments are called? Banana Republics and I think you would agree they don't make for a great society. Also, countries with small governments have citizens that are not loyal to the government and it breeds factions in the country or terrorist.
I think you will find upon more reading a big government is necessary, but you need to keep the corporations and lobbyist away or it turns into a dirty diaper, so to speak.

From a cost-benefit perspective I can't support big government. It's too wasteful. The uncalled-for military spending, bloated bureaucracy, and some elements of social spending are out of control. Yes, I would be more supportive of big government if it were more effective.
Of course the reason Bezos wants to be in DC is to grab part of the payola. Someone said Google Amazon etc. are rapidly moving in the opportunity of being government contractors and especially defense contractors.

Interesting that you mention this A3000. Oddly enough there is an article in the Washington Business Journal that the three jurisdictions will be working together.

https://www.bizjournals.com/washington/n...ials-in-talks-about-ways-to-jointly.html

Since you have lived here before, you know firsthand how intertwined the three locals can be. What's good for one jurisdiction could have overflow benefits to the others. All 50,000 potential workers will not all settle down in NOVA. Also, not all overflow business that follow the HQ2 will settle in NOVA. Some may prefer a K Street address. I'm glad to see the effort as a collective...although I am partial to my side of the river.

I saw that article in the Washington Business Journal last week. With that said, if this new found Regionalism were true, don't you think they should have started the conversations starting back in Sept/2017 and not wait until the middle of April/2018?

Also, Amazon's VP of Real Estate said they will probably go with a city that can offer an urban experience to their employees that is similar to their Seattle HQ. He also said the campus should be integrated into the city. Where in Northern Virginia could they pull that off? Crystal City/Pentagon City by Ronald Reagan is in no mans land and the area out by Dulles is a 3rd rate office park. I just don't see it happening there and I was born and raised in Virginia.

I am sure that you are well aware that the metro area has many F500 companies that are not directly tied to the federal government. There are tens of thousands of technology workers here.

Before we moved here, I thought everything about the area was tied to the federal government..but it's not. I actually fought the idea of my husband moving us from NYC to Washington because I felt the area would be boring and heavily weighted towards politics. Boooring!

It's not quite the way people think about it. As I said, the area is rich in very intelligent, accomplished and capable people. There are millions of people here whose job have nothing to do with the federal government. I could go on and on about the many positive attributes about DC but I will spare this thread. The negatives are the cost of living and traffic. Even with Metro, I feel that traffic here is worse than Atlanta. I loath crossing the American Legion Bridge to visit friends in Potomac and Bethesda.

I was born and raised in northern Fulton County so I would love to see Atlanta win as well.

Have you been to Richmond yet? You must go. Near downtown is an area called the Fan - It is like 3 Georgetowns. Also, go to Willamsburg, VA especially during Christmas. Also, Virginia Beach is surprisingly nice. I miss Virginia/DC, but not the expense or traffic.

All I will say is that you should make a trip to NOVA soon. As Atlanta shows signs of changes every time I visit, so will NOVA show to you. People will say they want one thing and their ultimate choice leaves you scratching your head.

As far as who will win HQ2, only time will tell.

Funny you mention Richmond. I was in Bethany Beach this weekend (one of the benefits of living in the DC area) and a new acquaintance asked me have I visited Richmond. My first thought was "wwwwwhy". I was given a very positive run down on why Richmond Rocks.

Clearly I need to make a trip to Richmond and soon. From the music scene to dining to history, apparently I will be pleased.

Just like the private sector, the public sector from a cost benefits perspective scales more the larger it is. Amazon and Wal-Mart don't have low prices from being small. Same is true for government. Again the problem is corporations and lobbyist.
