Strange timing after all these years. We may have seen a more friendly council late 2018 that would allow a Walmart, and with all that new population in the area... oh well, I'm sure they made out just fine on the transaction. It will be interesting to see what's financially viable there for Industrial use.

Agree that's strange timing. Just when it looks like Vision is going to be all but wiped from council and now they sell? Huh.

Why the reference to Vision? Walmart never submitted a rezoning to a Vision controlled Council - it was before Vision even existed. For whatever reason (perhaps because they picked up the Grandview location) they never submitted a rezoning to a Vision controlled Council. Maybe with the other new retail in South Vancouver (Canadian Tire, Marine Drive) it didn't seem a good business move to add another store down there.

Let them Die in the Street - Grandview Woodlands Residents Fundraise to Prevent Addiction Recovery
1636 Clark Drive & 1321-1395 East 1st Ave - That's a sickening sentiment, but unfortunately it is literally being put into practice in the Grandview Woodlands. The current detox centre is located at 377 East 2nd Avenue, kitty corner to St Francis Xaiver K – 7 Catholic School, across the street from the new Emily Carr University, one block from the Boys and Girls Clubs Vancouver offices, and has plenty of family housing nearby. We have never heard of any problems regarding this facility, nor the people who use it. After all, these are people who are trying to recover from their health problems.
My friend, who provided us with this notification, was therefore very supportive when they learned this valuable piece of the health system was moving a 5 minute car ride down the road, and would soon be their neighbour.

Looks like an expensive flyer at that too. Classic we have a homeless, drug, housing, rent etc... problem, but the building is too big, too tall, too low income, too close to families, too close to my home.

I respect neighbour's views, concerns, and opinions, but I would say being at the intersection of 2 major arterials, across the street from rail tracks and industrial, a few short blocks from SkyTrain the argument against a 6(ish)-storey building can't hold up. I even think the closest school is 3-4 blocks away?

They'll just bitch about anything, won't they? It's a detox centre; safe injection sites are understandably divisive, yes, but rehabilitation should always be encouraged.

Right.
Because as we all know so, sooo well, drug-addicts never EVER come from families or family housing or from among seniors.

Not the "good sort", anyway.

Oh, the Horror!!!

Do these people imagine that drug addicts and homeless people just magically fall out of the sky from nothing?

New Affordable Housing Proposed for Kerrisdale! Wall Group Proposes Expanded and Integrated Crofton Manor
Crofton Manor (2803 West 41st avenue)

Some would say it would have to be awfully cold out for Vancouver to consider more density near the heart of the Kerrisdale Village. Maybe there is a shred of truth to that, as in January City Council approved an “issues report” which contained a city staff recommendation to allow Wall Group to proceed with a rezoning application in that very neighbourhood. The property, Crofton Manor, is a seniors’ care facility that was most recently rezoned in 2013 to allow for 339 units of housing and care units for seniors, with 1.12 FSR, and heights of up to 24.3m. However, the location sits underutilized, with 3 story buildings which provide only 193 unit of seniors care housing.

Well NPA controlled council following that asked them to reapply and they didn't.

I don't recall whether the NPA did that - it would be a bit unwise as it would imply they would then go into a rezoning hearing with a predetermined decision in mind, which isn't the way things are supposed to work, and sometimes leads to lawsuits.

My point was that the 2005 vote against Walmart on Marine Drive didn't involve Vision, because there was no Vision in those days. The vote was 8-3, with all eight COPE councillors against the project. Only the two NPA councillors – Sam Sullivan and Peter Ladner – along with Mayor Larry Campbell, supported the project. 'The Friends of Larry Campbell' became Vision.

In a way they do, seeing how many are not from the families / seniors who live in or near this city, but come from up north / out of province.

For the record not against this project, but after seeing the trouble a major influx of homeless in Maple Ridge brought after the opening of the caring centre (friends of mine who lived nearby had a major increase of theft from their properties after it opened) I do understand the concerns.

Condos slated for 'Vancouver’s most haunted house' site

A legendary home often dubbed “Vancouver’s most haunted house,” on a property rumoured to be an Indigenous burial ground, is the subject of a rezoning application for a new condo building.

Pennyfarthing Development, the developer of a number of high-end condos along the Cambie Corridor, is applying for rezoning on the site, which is diagonally opposite the King Edward Canada Line station.

What a boring ugly building! I rather have the haunted mansion sitting there. At least it's a landmark, and a conversation piece.

The haunted house is some generic 1980s suburban house. I'm sure people will make up stories about the building being haunted

I feel like that corner should have commercial

I feel like that corner should be about 3-4 times the density, what a joke.

Apparently it was haunted until Buddhists moved into the house.

Anyone else disappointed in the number of older schools in the city/region being torn down and replaced with generic cookie cutter boxes?

Too bad they couldn't just pony up a little more to seismically upgrade them.
