Public Workshop - April 25, 2018
Join project staff to share your perspectives on the redevelopment of River Crossing. This event will focus on four big questions:

How do we draw people to River Crossing?

How do we move to and through River Crossing?

How do we make River Crossing a complete community?

How do we steward River Crossing sustainably?

Feedback that we receive through the workshop will be reported back to the public and will support the creation of redevelopment concept design options.

Date: Wednesday April 25, 2018
Time: 6:30-9pm (doors open at 6pm)
Location: Old Timers Cabin, 9430 Scona Rd NW

for starters, if you want to draw people and interest in what's going on somewhere in the city, it would probably help a lot to rename the area.

my guess is you could ask 100 edmontonians where rossdale is and 90% of them would be able to tell you.

my guess is you could ask 100 edmontonians where river crossing is and 90% of them would give you a blank stare.

you'd think we would have learned after renaming jasper east village to the quarters and belvedere to station pointe.

even the city rfeoi for the coliseum/northlands site is for "edmonton exhibition lands transformation"...

it's almost as if nomenclature is chosen to reduce the amount of public input and reaction until all of the major decisions have already been made at which time the number of ads and hearings and open houses are trotted out to prove otherwise. even the location of the open house to many would imply it's on the other side of the river around the cabin - why not hold it at the ballpark?

When is it going to commence.
No specific date set yet but I would guess by the summer. I believe the EDC will be debating the redesigned public realm next week (maybe this week?) and once that's a go things should begin.

Hopefully the new look will help the building attract some tenants. I remember reading awhile back that HSBC Bank Place had one of the highest vacancy rates in downtown. Location is fantastic so with a new look I'm sure they will fill up space quickly.

Agree with KCantor. I had to click on the recent River Crossing link and scroll to the pics to remind me of what that was lol.

Rossdale Flats has a nice ring to it.

Abbotsfield Mall has been re-christened Riverview Crossing.

It at least have negative perception to leave behind, but what's the excuse for giving Rossdale such a banal generic name? It sounds like the want to convert it to a power centre.

and we certainly wouldn't want to confuse the map of rossdale (which doesn't indicate or identify riverview crossing on it even though it's on the city page for the neighborhood of riverview) with the link below it to the asp for riverview which is actually quite some distance away in the far southwest.

the development industry agreed to "overpay" the city for permits and approvals when things were good to create a surplus fund for the city so that when things were not so good the city wouldn't have to lay off the staff they needed to have to process permits in the good times during the slow times and then have to try and hire staff all over again when the next cycle started.

so much for that...

http://edmontonjournal.com/news/loca...hall-officials

no wonder - from another post - “..."Officials could investigate each of those [intersections] further to see if there’s anything to be done, but they’re not planning to do that unless Council gives specific direction, said Ohm.

””We’ve got enough to do,” he said.

...”

soooo... apparently we’re too busy planning to do any more planning so just 🞵🞵🞵🞵 it up people?

maybe one of the other reasons they're too busy is they don't have enough staff?

Very very impressed with how the Enbridge building face treats what was just an alley. Now if only more architects in Edmonton "got it".

I would kill to get the nearby Terrace Building and those awful awful surface parking lots added into the study area. That building and those lots have GOT to go.

^ Considering the amount of retrofits done recently and the number of departments moved into that building I don't think you'll see it going anywhere anytime soon

I'd never work in that isolated location. But I guess that's why the bureaucrats get their wet-on over it: hiding from the real world.

They're doing it to clear out of leased space. 350,000 sf worth with another 250,000 to go. That's the motivation behind it.
