The city also understood that the East Village wouldn't be built in a day and who is to say some posters may not end up with a view of these towers. At the end of the day, the acceptance of mediocrity just to see things built quicker is worst than the design of these towers. These towers aren't temporary. They will be still standing long after were all dust. The value of good urban design and quality architecture over their lifetime is worth a lot more than the pittance gained in property taxes. Communities all around the world understand this. Unfortunately, it's a rare occurrence in Canada.

"Armchair architects in the peanut gallery" That's an awesome expression, thanks for making my day.

It's so true though, lots of picky people criticizing what they think should be built or not built depending on what suits their tastes. Those who, complain please feel free to step up to the plate and purchase a condo in a building with a nicer design. It's all down to supply and demand and consumer choice.

I don't think this is anything more than a single family home.

That’s pretty intense, q-deck supporting likely heated concrete floor.

The UofC is actually building an attractive building?

Did they steal someone from SAIT?

Seeing as the SAIT buildings are garbage. I doubt it.

It must be one huge house. I've never seen that kind of construction on a house before.

I worked on the interiors of a home in Britannia around 2009 that they built similarly. The place looked like a shopping center prior to the finishing. The ridiculous part was it wasn't even spacious and open inside. It was small chopped up rooms around an interior swimming pool. Place was super dark.

With all of the "twin" towers Calgary has it's too bad we have nothing even remotely as cool as this.

Video Link

The channel this video is from is very cool. It's construction-related and has some amazing videos.

Even more impressive is that its just a re-skin of the existing tower. New block however (longer east-west, skinnier north-south and extending out into the mall which is getting a total makeover)

Some of the ideas I've heard bantered around are a bit extreme, like automation to the point of if no one is physically on the floor it more or less powers down (and no actual computers, everything is a thin terminal). Doubt it will happen to that extreme, but between the renders and super aggressive schedule we will see.

There's only one building in Edmonton u/c at 250m, and one proposal that's taller, but I doubt will get built.

Will the 250m Stantec tower tower be topped any time soon?, probably not, but who cares, a building like Telus Sky puts it to shame design-wise.
