Even if the exact ones were discontinued in Chinatown, they replaced ALL of them, so they could have picked something that actually fit nicer in Chinatown and didn't look like they bought them at Costco.

I'm not sure if it has been mentioned here before but CentreVenture has a website set up for the Alexander Dock redevelopment www.onthedocks.org

Competition launches Mar 6 and closes Apr 24 2018.

Most intriguing thing about this site to me is that Waterfront North is listed as a partner. Maybe it has some legs and we'll start to see some of the plans coming to fruition soon.

so just drove through kildonan park and noticed an interesting element I had never heard of being installed around the duck pond. big globe lights hanging off pink, yellow and orange arched poles. they look like something out of an 1960's mall.. not sure how they're gonna go over with the understated nature of that park. anyone got any renderings kicking around of the finished product?

So seemingly out of nowhere, Ralph’s at 1108 Corydon has been torn down and there’s a new development going up that appears to be multi-level mixed use. Can’t find anything online and just saw the sign now as I drove by.

Also, FastSigns is moving into the unit south of Eph Apparel in the Antares building on Smith. Seems like an odd location for them, not sure if they’re moving or adding this location. Great to see those spaces filling up though. Just leaves one corner unit left at the corner of Smith/Ellice now. But apparently developers won’t be able to fill street-level retail units downtown....

Walked through there on Saturday, thought the poles were for some sort of water spouts, colours seemed odd for the setting in a city park, right out of Disney!

I just caught a glimpse driving by, but it looked built right to the corner. Demo & foundation permits were only issued 5 days ago so they moved QUICK on this. Will try and get a pic of the development sign tomorrow.

It is a new 3 storey office building, designed by 2 Architecture

Well it is lighting, the poles are way of character for the location and the park, garish is not something you want in that setting! IMO

Not bad! It reminds me a bit of the small office building that went up on South Osborne a year or two ago, but this one looks even better.

I'd never expect the whole Corydon strip to become new buildings, but a few nice new ones here and there would make the area feel a little more vibrant.

Totally. And I'll get on the Jane Jacobs soapbox here and say it's important to keep a good supply of old commercial buildings in a neighbourhood, but Corydon has a long ways to go before that becomes an issue.

It really fills out that lot well and should have an imposing presence, in a good way. Hopefully inspires more landowners what they can do with their properties around there. Would love to se those three decrepit houses at ~600 Corydon replace with a bigger development.

I went thru Chinatown yesterday on my way to work and see what you mean.

From what I could see on the streets I was on all the character lights have been removed and replaced with the stock residential subdivision light poles and fixtures.

My favourite streetscaping lights were from the late 80s/early 90s on Sargent and Ellice Avenues. I remember even as a kid being intrigued by this sort of thing and they stayed in my head due to their insane designs. Sargent had big yellow loops that said Sargent in cursive writing and Ellice had these teal hyper-90s lights and poles. I wish I could find pics!! anyone else remember these?
