Thompson's little downtown is a very odd little nucleus. RCMP detachment kitty corner to the LC, then you got a busy bar and the beer store across the street, then across the street from that is a beautiful, brand new Lakeview Hotel.

Looking at the board of adjustment meeting for Feb 28, the old Esso station land at 865 Henderson Hwy is going to be the new home of the Fort Group accounting company.

Or at least that is the name and logo that are showing on the renderings given to the city.

They will be moving from their downtown location at 219 Fort St.

Interesting. They just redid the exterior of the building not too long ago. Fort has so much potential (along with Garry) connect Graham up into the Exchange. It's pretty much a blank slate right now, lol.

Interesting that there still isn't For Lease signs up at the old Ivory – wonder if they've already secured a new tenant and let Ivory's lease expire. They opened this week at the new location (former Spice Affair/Dhoom).

It's a shame whenever downtown loses a business to another area of the city.

I think this could be good though, that area is in serious need of development. Maybe with an empty lot someone could come in and turn it into a much more positive space.

I wouldn't consider this good in any way, it's one of the few actual buildings on that block, and it's the only one that's been well taken care of and updated. Unless someone has some grand plans that haven't been leaked to tear it down and used the surface lots on either side for a big development, there's nothing positive here.

Extensive Reno’s going on so I assume either ACU or Wawanessa are using it as office space, just speculating though

Ivory had such minimal impact on street activity that it being converted to offices, if that is the case, won't even make anyone notice IMO. Furthermore, it should hopefully make other CRU's in the area a more coveted commodity (cough cough fortune block). Ongoing absorption of office space is always +++. That main branch of ACU needs to be dragged into the 21st century as well! It looks like it was designed during an episode of Trading Spaces lol

A large lot in the 3000 block of Pembina Highway that’s been empty for about a decade may soon be the site of a major residential housing development.

The apartment towers would be 13 and 15 storeys, respectively, and feature a combined 410 residential units.

There would also be 15,000 square-feet of retail space located immediately adjacent to the buildings, just off Pembina Highway
.

Went to get my watch repaired at The Bay over lunch today, and it looks like facade improvements on a couple of Modernist commercial buildings south of Portage are coming along nicely.

The first one, on Graham between Kennedy and Vaughan, is going be a big improvement over what it most recently looked like. Looks like 546/Barcode is doing the work (hence all black everything).

I've always like this building, and it's a good example of how modern buildings can be just as urban as traditional buildings.

Another one around the corner on St. Mary and Edmonton is getting similar treatment:

@Wardlow -- Great update! Nice to see some of our less-appreciated architectural heritage downtown getting the attention it deserves.

What an amazing upgrade for that building on Graham Avenue. That block between Kennedy and Vaughn has good bones, but the buildings look pretty tired for the most part... this will really help to spruce things up on that stretch. Thanks for posting, wardlow.
