Which WS people? The BoD/the Big Shots? Or just regular WS people? Unless the Big Shots say otherwise, I’m cautiously optimistic that it will be a successful partnership and will work out well for everyone. I have no insider information, just a gut feeling!

What stood out to me is the international flying toward the end of the year. October, flat. November & December, not so much. (17% increases). That's two years in a row that Nov & Dec grow quickly. A lot more sun flying, obviously.

Hey, they're charging more for carry-on luggage than checked luggage. About time! That should help with the ridiculous process every flight goes through today.

Yes, major AC expansion at YUL has pushed them about 2 million pax ahead.

Someone should get in touch with YYC, and ask them to post aircraft movement numbers as well.

Indeed. YYC flirted with YUL's totals for the longest time (2 decades?) but between AC's huge expansion from there, TS trying (in vain) to keep up, and even WS adding frequencies and the occasional destination in order to maintain its tiny foothold, YUL has finally received the attention it has been craving for a long, long time.

With AC's performance in the last few years, I'd say their decision to convert their model, one which focuses exclusively on 3 hubs, was a very good decision. Couple this with Alberta's significant economic regression over that same time frame, I'm sure the decision was an easy one for AC to make. Truthfully, I'm surprised that YYC managed to keep growing despite the sad state of affairs.

Don't worry dude, I can guarantee YUL passed YYC this year. Nov & Dec were absolute snoozefests. Almost amusing how we would do well over 250k on crossing runways, then when the parallel (finally) opens, traffic dries up.

Just caught the end of a news story on 959 CHFM this afternoon stating that “improvements to YYC’s domestic terminal will begin shortly to match those in the international terminal” but no specifics were given. Any idea what’s coming down the pipe for the domestic terminal?

Didn't they just spend a bundle on the intl' expansion? Perhaps they should be a bit more prudent with their cash lest they end up like Pearson a decade ago.

No prob. The 767 was an amazing aircraft for it's day but it's getting a bit long in the tooth and the dreamliner definitely allows some next generation level of improvements.

Speaking of AC. They have updated their summer scheds.

As we know they are reinstating YQQ... other than it's pretty status quo.

Some notable observations compared to last summer or just in general mainline:

YYZ will be 17 daily: daily 763 (to/from Narita), 5 321s, 4 737MAX, 7 320s
YVR will be 14 daily: 3 320s and 11 319s
YUL will continue as 5 daily all 320s
YOW will continue as 3 daily all 319s (used to be E90s)
LHR looks like it will be a 789 after all
NRT to be a 763
FRA a 77L as last year
About 15% capacity taken out of international longhaul

3 daily Transborder 2 to LAX (1 320 and 1 319) and EWR 319.

Jazz:
As mentioned new daily YQQ
YMM down to only 4 daily
The rest is status quo... looks like more DH3s this summer.
YWG won't be all jet as one of the 4 daily will be a DH4.
And two daily to IAH instead of 3.

Hmm. Perhaps they’re removing all of the seats from the gates, and putting super shiny/slippery tile flooring in place of the existing carpet?

This may be the end of the road for the E90 at Calgary.
Yes looks like AM’s last flight is 9th April.

They will codeshare on WS though.

I don’t think the YYC-MEX market is as big as we think.

I’m wondering if YVR’s is even big enough to sustain 4 carriers and 32 weekly flights.

Even WS probably sees YYC-MEX isn’t large enough to have a daily flight without feed. An 0940 departure from YYC definitely indicates relying on connections to help out and on return as well. Whereby WS is clearly going after the YVR-MEX O&D market with its 0700 daily departure.

I think they should have waited for the new Mexico City Terminal to have more success.

Connecting in Mexico City and the huge layovers with the flight times killed the onward connections except at bargain basement prices.

Of course. Never a good thing when a business shuts down. I was in Canada over the Xmas Holidays and was one of the last few customers shopping at a couple of Sears stores. Sad.

As I was saying the O&D on YYC-MEX isn’t high enough and reliance on transfers wouldn’t have been enough to sustain this route despite timings.

The fact that YVR YYZ and YUL continuing can sustain the larger O&D numbers.

I feel like Frontier will have the same fate later this year. It’ll be hard for them to compete with UA and WS. And just like AM, the flight times for connections in DEN aren’t great either.

Was Frontier always just seasonal service? Booking is only available until Aug 11th? Seems an odd date to stop service, right in the middle of summer?
