Ya I was disappointed that Montreal lost its horse track. I've been to MTL about 10 times, and 8 of those times were for the grand prix. So when I showed up recently in late September, I thought checking out a different kind of race track would be a good time to kill a couple of hours.

At least I got to drive around Circuit Gilles Villeneuve since it wasn't race weekend. Though at a speed limit of 20 km/h it wasn't exactly thrilling, but still fun riding those curbs and pretending I was the re-incarnation of Gilles Villeneuve.

My friends and I used to sneak into Greenwood race track in Toronto as kids just for the hell of it. It closed shortly before I could place a legal bet.

Being in Oakville, it is a bit out of character. I stop there quite a bit as I have family in the Bronte Creek area. There is a shitty little retail plaza down the road that is also decidedly un-oaked:

I've seen some of the people hanging out at the sports bar there. The patrons you would also consider to be un-oaked. Same with a bar off Sixth Line where I live. And of course in Kerr Village.

The worst plaza I know in Oakville is on the opposite end. It's on Kingsway near Winston Churchill. Gotta be the worst parking lot in the city. Crumbling so much you'd swear it was hit by mortar fire.

As for that hotel, I park just in front of there on the empty gravel lot and head down to the river during salmon season. I'd often hit up that Hortons afterwards to go wash my hands to rid myself of the fish smell and grab a hot beverage, so I have fond memories of the area in general, including the hotel. But the aesthetics of it is very much questionable.

I kind of like it! It does have that mid century vibe for sure, which I have a soft spot for, being that I am also a product of that time period!

The hotel doesn't look ugly at all ....neither does that plaza, except for the parking (fugliness tastes are pretty varied in this thread, which I can appreciate)

For the record, here is the embassy or high commission(?) of Malaysia that KW referred to. It's in Ottawa's Lower Town. I've always liked it.

I can only imagine our national degradation had Stephen Harper been in office for Trump’s presidency.

So I’m not the only one and my phone isn’t infected then? Good to know. Has SSP gotten more desperate for advertising money or something?

Brad Wall has finally been replaced as Premier. Unfortunately his successor sounds like an even bigger jackass. He’s promising to take on the Federal government over the carbon tax. In AB Jason Kenney and the UCP just collectively jizzed their pants. I can’t wait for this ugly mess to come front and centre in the next election. Hopefully Andrew Scheer doesn’t try to drag us backwards with this BS.

This thread has always included ugly political figures and Canadians as a whole. So far Scott Moe sounds like another braying jackass like Brad Wall was. I'm sure him and Jason Kenney will form the new Legion of Doom if Kenney gets elected here.

There's a difference between posting ugly photos of politicians and getting deep into the policies of parties. You're not exactly impartial which is what politics is about. Everyone thinks they are on the moral high side but, it really all about self interests.

I know many staunch, hard working middle class liberals in Toronto that have been adversely affected by the Trudeau government's social policy changes.( Keep in mind middle class in Toronto is going to be something different elsewhere in Canada.) Just because of this, they probably won't be voting Liberal the next election. At the same time, those same policies changes benefit those that are wealthy without having to work for it. Those changes are to the benefit of the average member's family including Trudeaus.

It's a meat grinder out there. We're all just avoiding falling in.

I can appreciate that. I live in Calgary which has been hammered more than any other city in the country over the last two years with the slump in oil prices. Just this morning I saw a homeless guy with a shopping cart advertising washer and dryer repair wandering the industrial park by my work. Unfortunately though I don't see an alternative to a carbon tax if we are going to meet our Paris Accord commitments. It's tough out there but we can't move backwards on this.

What's up with that pointless pedestrian bridge? Who would use that when they can J-Walk in a quarter of the time. Why not just put in a flashing crosswalk there?
