Flamboro Downs in Hamilton area. At some point in time it would have been cool. That time has long passed.

Once you get past the entrance everything is normal.

What a turd for Brampton. That OLG horse racing facility place isn't too bad....it's generic but not terribly fugly IMO.

That looks like it needs a bit of TLC, but it doesn't strike me as ugly at all. Reminds me a bit of the Malaysian Embassy in Ottawa. Sort of a space age/mid-century vibe.

For the horse track, I posted a third pic of the actual grandstand and track to show that after the tacky entrance, it's pretty standard fare. So ugly on the outside and not so much on the inside. Just wanted to show the contrast. Not sure why it was deleted. I guess every pic has to be ugly?

By the way, yes it's tacky, but it does make it interesting. This would not fly at Woodbine, the premier facility for the industry. But out in the country... why not?

Good question. I usually hit various tracks a few times a year on my way to somewhere else. I'm pretty sure most tracks are harness only. While a place like Woodbine or Fort Erie (the two tracks that host the Triple Crown) would be thoroughbred and then standardbred (harness) in the winter.

IIRC, there are about a dozen tracks in Ontario. Used to be 15 or so. More will be closing in the coming years. This is the trend across the industry in North America.

When I looked at wikipedia it shows one or two harness tracks for each province.

Don't know. Pulling sulkies is the "standard" for standardbred racing in North America so I would expect it at any track.

Would you consider this hotel in Oakville to be ugly? It's not attractive. I know that much. Great location though. Overlooking the river. Super convenient for gas and Hortons as well. It shares its parking lot with a Pioneer station.

There used to be tracks in almost all of the major cities of Quebec but the sport is near death in this province.
