The balconies are shelter a bit from the setback . It's actually a pretty common form in suburban Calgary.

It is a bit big, but it's right on a future BRT line, and well connected to roads plus doesn't overshadow anyone.
It's not NIMBYism. The concerns in plopping a 20 storey tower in a low to mid rise community are valid. It seldom works out. A BRT shouldn't be reason enough to throw local planning out the window either. 10 to 12 is reasonable in consideration of the BRT. 20 is not.

I don't disagree, but the reasons given by the locals aren't the reasons you gave.

I'm the last to hold them against there colourful concerns. I don't mind being hypocritical but even I have limits. They have more at stake than I do. What they say doesn't really matter. The point is the tower is inappropriate. It is not bad enough to be good like the castle or some of Toronto's planning choices.

What are you doing having an opinion when you don’t live in that community?! Don’t you know that the Blackfoot truckstop is the heart and soul of Inglewood?!?

It sounds like a strategy to get more than the usually allowable 6 stories. I doubt it will end up this tall. Also this area is likely to densify quite a bit in the future as it is currently a big waste of space near the city centre.

The tower itself looks like it's from the 1980s...

According to this

he is a retired captain in the Canadian armed forces. Lord help us.

That excerpt of his voice mail message to the women who he is interested in with a time limit to it is priceless.

Revolting hate-filled shithead with severe narcissistic personality disorder. Kind of like that odious orange man south of the border.

why are we tolerating hate speech in this country?

I know right. The annoying thing is I actually don't think it's a great proposal, just the reasons some people have given against it are the worst kind of NIMBYism. For such a bland project it's really brought out the worst in people.

Agreed. Frankly I hope it doesn't get built in its' current form. It's just a shock to the system of many I think to go straight out the gates to a 20 story building in such a current wasteland. Long term I see the potential but this might be too much to swallow right off the bat.

I get that with the crude rendering and the developer maintaining anonymity. What sort of strategy is it to propose something so absurd to a community that opposes large scale development? You're just aggravating people instead of actually working with thme. (Which the rep says is their intention with this pathetic rendering ... sure ) you're creating NIMBYism. I can't blame locals for acting irrational over this either.

Agreed, they need to be spanked, repeatedly, with a Forbes magazine. The rendering would have communities in arms. How stupid, considering that they need to garner support.

isn't $500K a trivial amount for Mr. Wonderful? Who would pay 5 cents to listen to this baldy's bullshit?

Didn't he always proclaim himself to be a Billionaire? The article says he's only worth a paltry $400 million.
