This guy was once charged with indecent exposure for masturbating in some woman's bathroom:

yeah, dmitri the masturbator

pathetic little weenie

consumed with hate, medical license revoked

That yellow building is actually the nicest thing in the pic -- what's thread-fittingly ugly is those soul-sucking one story commercial shitholes on Queen we can see right next to it, given that the urban fabric there almost certainly used to look like what's visible in the 1964 picture WhipperSnapper linked to. What a shame.

Ah well, if it wasn't for gentrification a lot of these places would have just been victims of changing technology.
I have to agree. While I sometimes miss the "grit" of certain Toronto neighbourhoods, nevertheless, on the whole, this city is a much more exciting and vibrant place to be today as compared to 20 or 30 years ago. I guess that cheap yellow siding simply had me reminiscing a bit about some of the "lost Toronto", but it's still a cheap cover-up that's in desperate need of a power-wash.

Thanks for the link. So there is brick behind that terrible siding. Who knows, maybe somebody will come along and save it.

Question about the yellow place - is that roof made of slate, or some other material?

As if the yellow siding isnt bad enough, it's also got that awful faux "stacked stone" on the storefront level.

Have builders gone colour blind? This is a new condo going up near my house and if it weren’t for the colours it might be ok. But this is just awful:

What the hell is that ground balcony?? I feel like they're are going to be many cases of those "balconies" breaking from many different things. Also, love how the form of the building is just so generic....

The 'S on the word SHAWARMA is also ugly to anyone who likes proper English.

Orange yellow is definatly not one of my favourite colours - make it a nice lemon yellow - that would be more appealing

I would be nice to get rid of the siding and paint the original brick some nice appealing colour ( I would think some nice loud colour ) and leave it at that.

It's made the CBC News.

Apparently Calgary doesn't have many castles.

Some quality lines from the article:
"luxury fortress"
"replete with '70s decadence, with parquet floors, wood-panelled walls and brightly-patterned carpets"
"There's a Tudor rose, and the building's number in Roman numerals on the tower's exterior."

Nothing says castle like Roman numerals. Yes, that's why the Super Bowl is fancy.

They lost me when they described the stucco as “stone walls”.

Looks like even the furniture is authentic 70’s schlock. My guess is the owners are Transylvanian or Russian.

James Sears seems like the type of character Donald Trump would appoint to be head of Human Resources.

NIMBYs are NIMBYing in Calgary. A 20 floor tower is proposed in an industrial wasteland, and this is the response of the local community association representative:

It is a bit big, but it's right on a future BRT line, and well connected to roads plus doesn't overshadow anyone.

It's so bad and so dated that it's awesome. It's a time capsule for crazy. Nothing has been refreshed in 25 years.
