I don't think that would be an objection. From following the Inglewood residents FB group I'd expect there to be more of an objection if they were luxury condos than if they were rentals.

The only reasons a a tower's height would be a problem is if it blocks views or overshadows people. This is not the case in this example, and those are weak/irrelevant reasons to block a project anyway.
If you have to ask that question, then obviously you have no idea. It’s not worth taking the time to answer your question.

So you have no rational reason, that confirms it is straight up NIMBYism. Give me a good reason and I'll listen. Name a single thing that is negative about the building of 20 floors that would not be an issue at 6 floors.

One of the compelling arguments from the CA is there concern for shadowing. The contextual picture as shown indicates that any shadowing would be onto Blackfoot trail.

I own a home in Tuxedo, about 150m from a future Green line station. Currently it is low rise and infills. That said, I fully support the Green line and hopefully all the 39 floor towers to be built within 151m of all stations.

Well that can be valid point then, though I expect that since 19th is relatively low traffic I would imagine that they can easily configure construction traffic to access the site from there.

While I can understand that some people have challenges with change, the point is Calgary is a growing city and density is coming to the inner communities. As per my other post, I have lived in Tuxedo for over 15 years and have always known that towers will be coming (still waiting ) as it is inner city.

Inglewood needs to understand that density is coming and while mid-rises can be great, the occasional taller tower will not destroy a neighbourhood. I posted the different contextual view to showcase that any shadowing concerns are moot since to the north of the building is a major highway, not SFHs. I don't like the design and don't like how it interacts with the street, but I have no issue with the density.

Yes I don't live adjacent to the site, but is that really the barrier to participate in city building? Should we only allow Calgarians who live adjacent to Centre St to weigh in on the North Green line?

Yes shadowing is one of the issues and since you haven’t seen the shadowing study you have no clue what it will affect. Instead you’re only looking at a rendering? Since you haven’t seen the shadowing study, it’s best you stay out of the argument, coming in with no knowledge whatsoever, doesn’t help.

Give you a rational response and he’ll listen? You haven’t been listening at any time so far so why would you listen going forward. Read my response to Shreddog.

With all due respect, I live in the inner city also, right near you, but there's a difference between adding density properly, and simply adding a tower. It seems like those who want to see this tower go up haven't put much though t into this, and are the ones who simply like to look at a tall tower.

Also, not sure why you're bring up shadowing? Shadows will be a factor, not just for those living beside, it but for anyone walking around that area. How can you not see that?

Yes, I haven't seen it. I am assuming you have, so can you share the details with us?

I agree that the building needs a redesign and needs to interact with the street better. But why is this a bad place for density??

I bring up shadowing since it is one of the main argument from the CA. Shadows go north and to the north is a major highway. If we are now concerned about shadowing to "anyone walking around the area", we should therefore consider demolishing every building on the south side of 9th ave since I have walked many times in Inglewood in their shadow.

A couple more things about the Inglewood project.

1) The "think of the children" angle regarding truck traffic through the school zone might seem a bit nimby-ish, but I suspect very long time residents still have memory of this:

2) It really seems the whole ARP thing is broken. Many thousands of dollars and hours of time are spent developing ARPs which are then constantly challenged, often successfully by developers. What then is the point of an ARP? In my (humble) opinion communities should be given a density target, perhaps with "downtown" getting one, innercity another, and suburbia a third, and then I think the residents of each community through their CA should have full control as to where that density goes in their neighbourhood as long as they meet the target. An exception might be if there is a BRT or LRT stop in the community, requiring a specific amount of density around it even if the community as a whole has already satisfied the general requirement. Then the city would densify as desired, and the residents would feel they have some ownership of their community.

Anyway, since this is more of an urban planning rant than Construction, here's the status of the new YWCA in Inglewood.

Not in this area I don't think. There was a proposal for something at the Elbow Casino site that was about that height, but I don't think there was any real chance of that happening. There are still development plans for that site that we could see soon.

Thanks for sharing. I was wondering the status of the new YWCA as it is not far from this other proposal.

Oh? Do tell...

Been awhile since we've seen rumours on this site. I miss those days.
