Someone posting on another thread reminded me of a spite fence I built. The neighbours were given my crew a hard time over a renovation so I decided to deck the entire backyard (maybe 300 square feet without the garage) at 18 inches off the ground (main floor height) with the highest fence height allowed. From their side (at grade), the fence was 18 inches over allowable height and they were pissed. I saw some years later they or a new owner had decked over their yard too. It really made the most sense for the space.

The mini "house" I posted the streetview of is similar to the one they built in Boston in the article I linked to on the last page about spite houses. The property never got bought and was too small for anything conventional to be built so they built this ridiculously small house.

The editor of a publication that has been labelled racist, anti-Semitic, homophobic, and misogynist has released another print issue and says he won't stop publishing because he doesn't believe the paper has broken any laws, even though he has been charged with hate crimes.

Copies of Your Ward News have been appearing in east-end Toronto mailboxes this month, much to the chagrin of residents.

Issues of the paper have included images portraying Jews as dogs and glorifying Hitler, as well as liberal use of the n-word and other slurs.

I work in distribution. From what I hear he's pretty wealthy so the issue isnt funding the dsitribution runs. The real issue is finding a reputable company that would actually take the job.

Theres no way in hell Id take him on as a client unless he paid me some rediculously high amount.. enough to quit the business Im in...which will never happen in this low margin industry.

I dont know what business in the right mind would distribute his paper with their other clients leaflets and postcards. I also dont know what distributor in the right mind would feel comfortable delivering his garbage.

Probably posted at some point, but worth posting again. If you didn't know any better you would think this is far out of Toronto's core, in a less trendy part of town. This however is located 2 blocks from Yonge Street and a few blocks north of the St Lawrence market area. The power lines which you tend not to notice when walking the streets after living here for a while are highlighted by the hurendous bright yellow colour of this building. It's neighbo0ours are all run down soul sucking structures as well. Would love to see a developer buy up this corner and tear this thing down. I'm sure at one point it had some charm, it probably has nice red brick somewhere behind that mess of siding.

It's a little local newspaper. Probably does what all the other community papers do. Gets volunteers to deliver the newspaper. He could be contracting out but, it's also likely he is printing it himself.

@TorontoDrew: actually that strikes me as almost more interesting than ugly. It's certainly in need of some upkeep. It's sort of a crappy-Baviarian-meets-Transylvanian. Although the roofing shingle pattern consistency is laughtastic.

Toronto Drew....IMO that's not ugly....it's interesting as one person had said.....but I find it more eclectic and intriguing. I get your point....sortof, but the cladding isn't that bad at all, neither are the power lines. The building still keeps its form and isn't that much more altered. If it was some EIFS or rusty metal cladding, then you could put it here I think.....fugly scale doesn't apply for this building IMO.

I was just watching the premier shuffling the cabinet.....not sure what to think on that decision.

I did say almost though.

I'd have to agree. I can think of plenty more examples of ugly buildings in the central core of Toronto than what this yellow-sided building offers... think of it as a bit of sunshine in an otherwise dreary strip of rundown shops that are lying in wait for yet another generic glass tower.

It is a cheap cover up job that hasn't been maintained. Then, at some point, was painted a bright florescent colour with the ground floor once again reskinned in generic engineered tile that is in a desperate need of a power wash. I do get eclectic. It's still ugly and very unfortunate.because there's nothing left worth saving and it will likely end up replaced with a bland condo. Good choice.

Queen and Church used to be a really interesting part of town before the invention of digital photography. It was where all the camera and photo equipment stores were.

On the whole Toronto is a much better city than it was in the 90s, but the loss of all those quirky districts where certain types of stores congregated - e.g. computers around College and Spadina, record stores on Yonge, outdoorsy stores along King West, all the fabric stores along Queen west, the leather jacket and fur coat stores near Adelaide and Spadina - is kind of a shame. Ah well, if it wasn't for gentrification a lot of these places would have just been victims of changing technology.
