Probably not too glitzy to sit across the street from Mercedes-Benz. That said I don't think the new design is really all that bad--

I noticed the days inn picture everyone was freaking about has been pulled. (Picture is blank now). Also, if you go on hard rocks own website, it has the good version under ‘atlanta’. If you look at some of their other properties outside Florida in the larger cities, many look nice in my opinion. Also, there may be a intellectual property issue with the developer using the one picture on their website. It may be that the hotel portion and stick frame apartment portions are done by two separate developers, due to financing issues.

Found on Reddit about the fire on piedmont, but a pretty good shot of lilli

Also reminds me how sparse Atlanta is when it comes to density

/\/\/\ Woa. I had no idea that tower in the foreground was already built. This is the one on Peachtree and close to the Fox Theater, right? Are there other pictures of it? First impression of it from this photo is it didn't turn out to be as cool as I thought it would be.

Yes, this is the one across from the fox. You can see at the top they are still installing the white paneling towards the top of the building. It’s pretty striking in person, IMO. Has a good view around town on the east side as well.

525 bed student housing project Theory West Midtown broke ground on Thursday at 806 Marietta street. 10,500 sq ft of retail.

While I don’t mind rows of one story retail buildings in this area, I despise how the surface parking kills the pedestrian experience in the area. Here’s hoping if mixed use takes its place that the local retail stays. I know that bartaco isn’t part of this parcel (they’re part of the parcel one or two below this), I could care less if chains we already have elsewhere in the city stay. Would be a travesty if we lost Bocado.

They might have a demolition permit or a land disturbance permit already, but the project is purview to the West Midtown/Westside Moratroium through March as well.

Really odd that the project is reported as broken ground, then.

Has the West Midtown Moratroium prevented Star Metals from breaking ground? That is my favorite project and it MUST HAPPEN!!!

I cannot feel like development below 5th street is just heating up! So much room for infill, more pedestrian activity, and new transit riders.

Does anyone remember the post about a residential project along juniper sharing parking with the church? I cannot locate it at the moment. If that moves forward along with Juniper & 5th, Anthem, and whatever Emory has in store along Linden, I will be shocked if demand for infill along North Ave does not skyrocket. Especially so if we break ground on the north ave streetcar project in the coming year or so.

I think it only went into effect last month or so? Star Metals had ample time to break ground before it was implemented.

Is this in addition to the proton therapy center?
I think this is some more bad reporting at the ABC. Emory just opened the Winship Cancer Institute Tower on their main campus.
http://news.emory.edu/stories/2014/04/hsupdate_euh_bedtower_update/campus.html

The ABC article also stated:
Quote:
Part of the funds will go toward Emory's planned Druid Hills on Emory's main campus, where the university is building a Health Sciences Research Building that will house faculty and staff who aim to develop cures, interventions and prevention methods that improve the health of patients. The center's five priorities will be brain health; cancer; heart and vascular health; immunology and infectious diseases; and radiology, biomedical engineering and imaging sciences. Emory will continue its partnership with Children's to investigate childhood diseases as well.
Emory's Health Sciences Research Building opened in 2013. See pic below.

Emory Healthcare just completed their J-wing Patient Bed tower (the pic you provided) on the University campus, not a Winship Cancer facility. HSRB1 was completed in 2013 and these new funds would be for HSRB2 which has been under scope development for about a year. HSRB2 looks to be a bit larger and have more research space/labs than HSRB1.

Emory sure is advertising it as completed. See link below.

The Winship Cancer Institute bldg is a separate existing building adjacent to CHOAs Druid Hills Campus built around 1990. It appears that Emory Healthcare Midtown will be getting a new separate Winship Cancer tower.
