Let's be honest, separated lanes and medians don't prevent human error:

I wonder what year this system will be decommissioned in order to make room for driverless car/bus technology? I'm guessing around 2031.

With unions, that is a dream within a dream within a dream within, you guessed it, a dream.

It won't matter. Uber and other taxi services can throw their employees away like garbage. These services will easily replace buses.

Not if they'll still charge five bucks a trip, they won't. And not when they're starting to become buses in order to be more efficient.

Good news is the line / extension to Langley has not been decided on for technology.
With this new bit of Kevin Desmond confirming it as LRT and Fraser Highway undecided, I guess Metro's source is legitimate after all.

Anything new you'd like to pass onto us?

Yep, it was no guy in an orange vest

There are a couple other rumblings I have heard, but I don't like to post such things unless I am 99% sure they are accurate.

Must be pretty common occurrence judging by their lack of reactions.
And this is in transit progressive Europe. Can't wait for the 2 hr shutdowns due to a minor accident.Every week Translink's twitter will be blowing up with complaints and snarky comments.

Also worth noting that the L-Linephase one is set to cost a little over 1 billion not the 2 billion plus many have stated when saying it was cost competitive to Skytrain on the L corridor.
The 1 billion is just an estimate right? Hepner's own impatient and stubborn 🞵🞵🞵 keeps saying to get on with it cuz costs just keep climbing.

Was so optimistic that this project would get canned early last year. Hearing NDP insiders calling this done deal in December gave me a sinking feeling.

I overheard there will be full on closures to 104th Ave. Driving in Surrey will be hell for 2 years.

Any word from those insiders on the Surrey Langley Line?

This is how the 3 important players stand:

Translink: Advocates Skytrain over surface LRT.
Langley: Wants Skytrain.
Surrey: Big surprise, dead set against Skytrain, wants surface LRT (and is even setting up spin doctor style advocacy groups to discredit Skytrain).

Right, but isn't it all moot if the province funds LRT?

NDP: Neutral. They want to maintain a good relationship with Hepner and the electorate. Many within Translink will advocate for Skytrain but the decisions will be made from the provincial level...

I get the felling this NDP government has a very "analytic" personality. Perhaps someone can do a Myers Briggs analysis on them. Basically given a decision to be made they will commission a study, analysis it to death before making a decision.

The Langley decision will be pushed out and made by the next government.

Except that most of the collisions in this video are at intersections where car traffic crosses the rails, so your idea that the divider will help kind of goes out the window at that point.

I will remind everyone again, SkyTrain is LRT so until the technology is decided, don't read too much into the "terminology" translink uses. They are politicians afterall.

Silver lining, won't be hearing any complaints about SkyTrain interruptions when people finally realize the system has been about 99+% available over the past 30 years straight and I don't remember the last time I heard on CKNW about a SkyTrain colliding with a car in the morning commute...
