I'm a Vancouverite that thinks Toronto has a better skyline. Vancouver, as a sum of its parts, is pretty fantastic, but as far as manmade skylines go, Toronto easily takes it.

Sorry, Toronto demolishes every other city in Canada, no contest. Vancouver is definitely second, then Calgary with Montreal very close behind and Edmonton rounding out the top 5.

Toronto demolishes every other city on skyline size, but quantity =/= quality.

Ottawa's skyline is far bigger than Quebec City's, but plenty of people probably prefer the latter.

Best is a matter of personal taste and preference.

What makes the best skyline? It's in the eye of the beholder. Montreal has an awesome diversity skyline (old churches meets new towers), Calgary has a very futuristic skyline, Vancouver has the natural setting skyline wrapped up, and Toronto has the beast factor. Take your pick.
You've summarized the situation nicely here. Vancouver has one of the most beautiful urban settings on the planet. On skyline alone merits, it rates a third or fourth place (with Toronto the undisputed numero uno, Montreal or Calgary number two, but i suppose some (if you love condo towers) could rate Vancouver above Calgary or Montreal). I rate Montreal's higher on account of density and variety.

It's subjective for sure, but Toronto beats every other city using every conceivable metric in my mind.

Vancouver is like the Canadian Cape Town or Rio De Janerio. The natural beauty gives it the best natural cityscape in their respective countries, but when it comes to towers, actual towers San Paolo or Johannesburg probably take it.

The one city that has both, with no competition is Hong Kong, great natural landscape and probably the most epic skyscraper skyline on earth.

Ironically, the biggest problem many people have with it is actually the lack of interesting features from some angles. Too many buildings with similar size/style/materials/colours which can come across as monotonous.

Personally I haven't totally decided if I even like the skyline. I'm really impressed by certain pictures (that one is quite nice), but with a lot of others, I'm just thinking "meh"... The less appealing ones tend to be facing south from the Coal Harbour perspective. That was actually my favourite side 10 years ago when the office buildings were less smothered by the condos. And I liked the skyline better with the Wall Centre building as the tallest since I've never been a fan of Shangri-la. I mean it's a decent building, but not interesting enough to be the most prominent imo.

Agreed. Toronto is in another league altogether when it comes to Canadian skylines.

what a cringey repeat of old posts. The objective/quantitative is undisputed, the subjective/qualitative is always up to the individual.

I agree with the subjective opinion that the old Quebec City skyline is more aesthetically pleasing than Toronto or Vancouver. In some ways, Toronto's gotten worse over the years as more and more bland condos have been built. The skyline back around 2000 was sparse but the individual office buildings (plus Royal York) were much more interesting, even if the city had a lot more holes back then. Vancouver is kind of like that but without as many impressive older office towers. The Marine Building would be one exception, but you can barely even see it in the skyline.

Wow, Edmonton is looking great, I really like the variety of hues and sizes of buildings. Same goes for Calgary.

I find myself looking at the mountains, harbour, boats, as oppose to the actualy buildings when I look at Vancouver photos or in real life. Still the combination of natural surrounding and density put it in the top 4 easily.
