Manhattan has several 5 and even 6 lane "highways"

Jarvis is a regular Toronto street with one extra lane.

Great density. The newer American-like grid pattern is clearly convenient, too. They do the same here over recent developments, with a bit of greenery/gardens to the inside of the urban lots, though. So people can breathe more easily, which is a good point as well. They should do the same out there in newly developed neighborhoods.

But disciplined dense streets remain the most glorious anyway.

Technically, any public road is a highway, though that usage is uncommon in everyday speech.

Downtown Calgary has massive one way arterials that are at least five lanes wide at rush hour.

Most Canadian cities have a one way couplet that acts as a traffic sewer for downtown. Ironically, these streets are much more easily convertible to separated bike lanes, and have been in a number of instances (e.g. Maisonneuve, Richmond/Adelaide, Hornby).

Calgary seems to have had a lazy tendency to just add lanes for no real reason. Lots of roads could be reduced with no effect on the capacity, and would actually make things better for drivers - in certain scenarios you may have to cut across three lanes in a short distance to get from one intersection to another which is both annoying and dangerous.

Cutting down roads like 9th Ave would be a win-win, but the standard frothing at the mouth Calgarian is usually too simple to understand that.

Montreal is looking really good these days, from the air and on street level. You can really tell that a decade or so of infill development has enhanced the urban form to a substantial point.

Walking around McGill street is a real architectural treat, and there's a good 10-15 years of development left until the fabric becomes "complete".
